F1s what's it mean please

I think it's like first generation maybe, Lets say if you had a motley and a normal breed their F1 babies would be normal het. motley. Then you could raise those up breed a male to a female of the same clutch and get normal motley babies as F2's, does that make sense? That's they way I understood it.
