Fabric hides

Was just wondering what are peoples opinion of me adding a sock to my viv as an extra hide. Would the fibres dry my snakes skin out, or could he eat the fluff, or would it be dangerous in any other way?
I thought it'd make a nice cozy addition to all the other wood, plastic and card hides that are in there at the moment but have my reservations, does anyone else have a bag like hide in their vivs?

Well, I've used paper bags as hides before... I don't think that the fibers would dry out your snake as long as the humidity in your viv is ok to begin with, and I can't think of any reason why you shouldn't use cloth as a hide. I'd say its worth a try to use a sock or something like that. Plus, you can thow it in the wash when it gets dirty! ;)

It's not a sugar glider. :grin01: If you are already providing more traditional hide types, I wouldn't bother. :shrugs:

my only concern would that if it got damp on the inside (spilt water dish, humidity, ect) it would mildew.

Funny. I was thinking the same thing at first. I was originally going to recommend a sock made of synthetic fiber, then I slapped myself. :grin01:

Well yeah, it could mildew, but wood and cardboard hides will also mildew if they get wet. It seems to me that all you would have to do is wash and dry the sock if that happened. :shrugs:

True, however doesnt fabric mildew at a much faster rate? I know it does not take long for a wash rag to start smelling "funky".

Oh and bigaaron, that is indeed Capt Murphy. I been on a huge Sealab kick recently. I bought all 3 seasons on dvd with my tax return. :crazy02:

:-offtopic It's totally off topic, but I just love your signature, Cycal. That is hilarious, and totally off the wall.
