REPTILE ADDICT
i am thinking of buying another snake but want to make sure she is healthy. she is quite fat and has a lumpy lower half. is this common? what causes this?

Well let me throw some lennyspeak here too!!

I'm guessing that you are looking at a private deal here. Not a corn snake from a pet store or breeder. I say that because of the lumpy lower half of the snake
and most breeder wouldn't let it go that bad and a pet store wouldn't feed it that much. So being a private deal, I would think that the owner over feed the snake so this would give you a hint of it overall care/health. Did the owner know they where over feeding it?? You should ask about feeding, how much, how often. Ask the age too. And ask about the set up the snake was in too.

But all this is just a guess. lol
It could be gravid like Dan stated.

But the bottom Line in Lennyspeak (btw I love it) is poor husbandry. Even if the snake is gravid they should know and be able to tell you that is why she is big and lumpy.

It is up to you, nobody here would question you wanting "rescue" it. So if the feeding schedule and amount sounds right I would start asking questions about being housed with another snake if not where did they get it from. Basically, try to get an idea if it is possible it had been bred in the past.
