Fear

Some corn snakes may be jumpier than others, but I don't think any of them want to bite us. There are so many sensations they pick up from us and react to without hesitation. We all must recover from our natural fear of snakes in order to keep these wonderful pets. We all learn how our particular charges behave and school our hands accordingly. These aren't trainable animals by any means; they teach us how to behave for them.

I have a snake who will try to tag me any time I am close to her viv.

To feed her, I pick her up quickly by the middle and put her in the feeding container.

The trick is to not wait for her to make the attack pose, or wait until she goes out of the attack pose. Then grip her firmly in her middle with both hands so that she feels supported. Make it a really short trip to the feeding container.

Another trick is to take her whole hide out with her in it and dump her (gently) into the feeding container.

Then after she is done, I dump her back into her viv.

I've found that if you hold your fingers together and your hand so that it looks too big to eat, it makes the snake less likely to lunge for it.
Also, even though a snake goes into the S shape, it doesn't mean that they are going to tag you. They really don't want to bite you.

I hope this helps.
