Feed Frequency to Behavior Habits Study

Simple curiosity here, it is common practice to not handle a snake for 48 hours after feeding. One large variable to hatchling feeding is frequency. As we all know everyone has their own schedule, some feed as often as every 4 days, while others every 7 and all in between. Everyone has their own reasons for their decisions with no wrong schedule (within these limits).

My curiosity had lead me to wonder if there is any noticeable behaviour difference between regularly fed hatchlings as opposed to those fed less often, IE. say 5 day feed schedule, 2 days "rest" leaves 3 days of handling. On the opposite end of this spectrum the 7 day feed, 2 rest days leaves 5 days of potential handling.

While I am well aware that EVERY snake is different in personality I would love to hear if the less fed, more handled snakes generally take handling better and become calmer adults.

I am not aware of any study into this and believe it could be of some benefit, especially to advise new owners on potential habits. (I have actually lost sleep over this) :shrugs:

quite honestly i only give my snake about 18 hours of rest after she eats. i just wait for her to start crusing around curiously and take her out then.

I feed every 5 days and handle 3 days out of the week, and mine comes right to my hand and is always tame. So I think it just depends on the snake. They all have different personanlities. But then again I am basing my opinion on my (only) snake, and by what I have read.

Mine are fed pretty religiously every 7 days...it's part of the Monday morning routine. They are also handled ALOT since I use them for children's programs and often share them with the kids. Chester was alot more calm when I first got him, and in contrast, Harriet was a real little bi*ch - hissing, rattling and striking when she first came.
Both are very used to the handling and seem to respond accordingly now. I can say that Chester is fine the next morning with the kids, but Harriet needs the extra break to keep dinner down. This just speaks to personality differences though.
I think that if you were to experiment with feeding intervals and handling, you'd have to control for amount of time handled per day. I'm definately curious, and will be watching this thread to see who else has some ideas.

I feed mine every 7-10 days. I do not handle him that often, maybe once a week, but he is, until recent behavior this week (another post) completely calm and just sits there or slowly explores. He is a year old (born in August or Dec., I forget which)
