Ok. Thanks.

Wow. I ask a lot of questions. Sorry. Maybe I should have put the title as, "Look out for the Noob qestions."

So is my checklist ok? I plan on slowly buying things and putting the tank together with the date to buy a snake late in June. I'm going to cough up the extra money to buy a snake from the pet store first. Unless someone has reasons that I should buy from a buyer. If I decide to buy another corn I'll buy from a breeder or go to a local show. Seeing how the show site in VA is about 25 mins from my house on a good day.

What temp range should I look at for both cool and warm side. Can I have the cool side just be room temp? I'm not really sure what the room temp would be, depends on if I leave the door open and the AC in the living room is on or how hot it is outside. I don't have a window AC anymore.

lol slacker. My mere is now saying I have to wait until I am 18 so the due date of my corn will be July 8th.

Maybe. I doubt it though. She wants me to wait because my sister really wants rats and my mom does not want them in the house so if I'm 18 I'm an adult.

Maybe I'll wait until the 14th, there is a show in MD. I might just drive myself the hour to get a snake from a breeder. What do you think? Would I have a good chance of getting a hatchling or would there be more yearlings?

Well by june or july you should have a lot more babies to choose from.
Right now is mostly yearlings, but people here are, and have been hatching out babies every day. As soon as they get two meals in them which is you figure a week or two after birth they're for sale, I'm sure there will be choices.

Humm the only thing is that I'm leaving the 19th of July to go over seas for 12 days. I know that if the snake is in the house and I'm not home and won't be my little sister will try to play with it because I have not laid down any rules. If I get it the 8th then I would have a chance of laying down some rules. What do you think? Maybe I should just wait till Aug. because I get back from being overseas and then I go to the beach for two weeks.

I'll think on it for awhile. Any input from the rest of you quite people would be nice... not that I don't enjoy your input Jenn.

Honestly, I'd buy from a breeder if I were you. It's not that I'm against pet store snakes, but your chances of getting a healthy snake are (imo) higher when purchased from a breeder.

Plus, if you get it directly from the breeder, they can let you know for sure how many times it's eaten, how many times it's shed, it's birth-month, probably it's weight, etc.

Plus, when going to a show chances are high that you'll have a huge variety of Corns to choose from, where, if buying from a pet store, you might only have 2-3 options. This alone is typically enough to talk me into going to the show.

Not to mention there's normally a local mouse breeder there who's selling mice so you can save a bundle on getting them there instead of paying for shipping, there's normally people who sell snake hooks, hides, and anything else you'd probably need.

And lastly, you get to see a ton of other cool reptiles. So yeah, my vote goes to going to the show.

By middle of July, there's a really good chance that a lot of breeders will have hatchlings there. Most the breeders in our area plan to have 'most' of their hatchlings by end of next month, with full stock by middle/end of July.

Alright. I'm going to the show in Aug. I'm hoping that there will still be a fair amount of hatchlings to pick from. This will be the best for the snake, which in the end is the only thing that matters.

More questions, is Repti Bark ok to use? This may seem silly but is Aspen chips the same thing as Aspen bed/letter? Also I have a 10 gal right now, it seems REALLY big for such a small snake. So should I have one of those small kitter keeper things set up to have the corn in to start with and then after a little while start leaving the top off and when I notice that the corn is no longer going back into the keeper take it out? Or what? Ideas are welcome.

Thanks to everyone who has helped me. I know that I'm asking a lot of things but it is because I want to make sure that everything is right. No need to kill a snake because I'm to lazy to find out info.

Also if I order mice from the site that is on the top right hand side of the board, how many of each size shoul dI get? Should I order from the site or buy from the pet store? I know the PetSmart has artic mice but there was only like 3 in the little thing.

Repti-Bark is a great substrate for Water Dragons and other herps that rquire high humidity...not so much for snakes. It IS natural, odorless, and easy to clean, but it retains a hella lot of moisture, which can lead to eventual scale rot and/or respiratory infection if it's kept too wet. Kept properly dried out, I can see few problems from using it.

Aspen chips are what I use for Tootse. It's the size you'll find in rodent cages. Aspen bedding tends to have more of a stringy/grated cheese look to it. As far as I know, both are fine as long as it's unscented.

Rodentpro is a decent place to get mice from, yeah. Some folks have good luck with them, while others do not. Another alternative is www.themousefactory.com.

As for how many, 50 pinks should last you 3-4 months, depending on your feeding schedule. Your hatchling would probably be close to being ready for fuzzies by 3-4 months old, but I'm not entirely for sure on this.

I'd just wait till the reptile show and avoid petshop mice if you can. They're too pricey at the pet shops and by getting them from the reptile show, you'll be saving yourself 25-30 bucks worth of shipping charges.
