Feed while shedding.

Wrangler is going to shed. He hasnt come out of his hide in days. I have to pick it up to see if he is under there and still alive. It was time to feed him yesterday but i didnt try. He just seems so letargic. I havent seen him coming out at night. I have incresead the humidity in the tank to help him. Is there any thing i can do for him. and is he acting normal. Should i go ahead and take him out to see if he will feed.

Let him be. Yes he's acting normal. I usually let my snakes complete the shed cycle, even if it means not feeding them for 2 weeks. I have fed snakes when in "blue", but don't make it a regular practice. Wait till he's done and enjoy the voracious feeding response!

Yeah i am really looking forward to it. I have gotten the fever allready even with wrangler being my first snake. I dont plan on buying anymore. but i have been doing alot of research into breeding cornsnakes. but for now i think i will just stick with wrangler untill he gets bigger and i get past the hurdle of learning.

Thats what you say now....you'll get to the show, with all the cute little deli cups, and by the end of the day, Wrangler will need a girl friend. Haha...just kidding

I just secured a ride with my herp vet this evening. I'll seeya at the show...

Are there any VIP tickets left or are they all sold out.
Not sure, I've never gotten them before, not quite insane enough to be there an hour earlier than everyone else. But almost! I always look forward to this show, Last time I checked the site Serpenco was listed as an exhibitor, I don't believe Rich did the last show in October. I plan on being there on Saturday, If the weather is nice, I'll be wearing a black T-Shirt that says "Enterprise Boxing". If you see me, say howdy!

Hey Standard, I didnt notice this before, but....

You're the next town over from my hometown. I'm from Winter Springs, just up in Tallahassee for school. Let me know how those pairings go for you, I might be interested in some things.

He was hungry

Well it was kind of wierd. I thought he was going to shed because his colored faded and i thought his eyes where blue. But last night i moved his tank to a more relaxed and less busy area. While i was getting his tank re set up he was following my finger around with his mouth open. His color was back eyes clear and i havent seen any sheddings in the tank. So maybe he wasnt going to shed. I can tell you he was real hungry. He gobbled up two pinkies and even tryed to eat my finger while i was getting him ready to eat in his feeding tank. Looks like he will be ready for a nap for a couple of days.

Shed did come like you said it went well. I changed to a new substrate Lizard litter premium plus with the fir and eucalyptus. It says it is safe for corns on the bag and wrangler really likes it. It is great for moisture and temp control and makes a really good burrowing area for him when he is not in his hides.

Just be careful of any dust that might be present. I generally do not use "Lizard" substrates with any of my snakes because they tend to have too much dust in them, especially the ones that have cypress in them. It may be ok for the Lizards because they have legs and live above the substrate, but snakes live on and in the substrate (they do tend to burrow) and the dust can create respiratory problems that can lead to the death of your snake if it goes untreated. Just watch for dust coating the body of your snake. If it appears to be "dirty", then there is way too much dust in your bedding and you have to get rid of it immediately.

I really suggest you check this stuff out Wrangler really seems to like it. There is no cypress. It really is a good substrate. There is no dust. I dont work for the company or anything i was just really impressed with the product.

I wasn't implying there was cypress in it, just to be careful of any bedding substrate that has cypress in it. Some people have even reported mites being found in the cypress bedding. In addition, Cypress is in the evergreen family, as is Fir, and because the evergreens have phenols and other noxtious substances (see discussions on Cedar and Pine) as a rule I just avoid them just in case. When it comes to bedding for my animals I like to err on the side of caution and it's better to be safe than sorry.

I stay away from substrates bought at pet shops, etc, they charge way too much money. I buy Laboratory Animal bedding in large bags for only a few dollars apiece from a supplier. For the same price as what a Pet shop would charge for a small bag of aspen, I can get 20 times the amount from a supplier. This is 100% aspen bedding that is already sterilized, dust free and all my snakes burrow in it and do well with it. Network with some friends and then go to a feed supply store and ask them to order in a small skid of bags for you and your friends. Find out what the costs will be first and I'm sure you will be amazed at the savings and the quality of the bedding. :crazy02:
