Feeding ANOLE's

So just wondering anyone ever fed the babies an anole... I was in florida for a week and captured a bunch of baby anole's. My clutch has just shed by the time I came back home should I just offer the anole's the whole reason why I even got them was because of the threads posting on anole scenting. will it harm them? also what about the adults can I feed them some too?

I would not reccomend using those anoles as feeders unless you absolutely must use them for scenting later. If you feed those, you run the risk of the snakes developing a preference for the anoles and not taking to Mice as you want them too.

Feeding Anoles

I wouldn't recommend feeding any lizard caught in the wild just because of parasites and disease. If you need something small, i'd stick to pinky heads.

I personally could never feed my anole or any lizard to another animal
I understand how you feel, but it's not completely rational. I love reptiles, and I hate rodents, but a mouse is many times more intelligent than the reptiles we both love. I had to buy an anole for scenting purposes earlier in the year. I didn't like cooling him in the fridge and then freezing him, but I did what I had to do. Even more difficult was euthanizing deformed and non-feeding corn snakes (my favorite reptiles) and feeding them to king snakes. But that's life (and death)... :shrugs:

People like variety. Reptiles eat what they can subdue. Mice have what snakes need to grow and flourish if they have been fed a good diet. Lizards come packed with parasites. It's not worth the chance when you have mice captive raised and relatively parasite free. And Dean is right on.

I have 2 babies that went 2 months out of the egg without eating until I finally offered an anole. I still have to feed pinkys with a peice of anole skin on the pinkys nose and don't know when or if they'll ever take a mouse by itself. Definately try a pinky 1st; you don't want to risk having to feed anole$ for the rest of their life. Let the little guys go.

:-offtopic I spent a week in Orlando and saw anoles all over the place. How in the hell did you catch them. Little to fast for me...:sidestep: , you're my hero!

Thanks for replies, I froze one for future scenting purpose. I never thought about snakes rejecting f/t mice after that, also parasite's are of concern. Thanks again.

Here is a bit of info for those worried about parasites and also promotes the use of f/t rodents as well. I want to say all, but will settle with most to be safe, parasites and there eggs that affect snakes are killed if frozen for a couple of weeks.
