Feeding Live Mice

Ok...I've had my beautiful 05 male snow cornsnake purchased from Don at SMR for 3 days now. I fed him a live pinky today. He had it in his mouth 15 seconds after I dropped it in his feeding container. It was great!

My question is this: I read that there is a risk of parasites from feeding live; is this true with pinkies? If so, what should I do? I'm not gonna order a 100-pack from RodentPro.com just to feed one snake, so should I freeze the live pink myself to kill any parasites? How long should they be froze before it is safe to feed?

Or, does anyone know where I can get like 10 frozen pinks from?
 
You can get frozen pinks from Petco - I think they come in a 6 pack and are about $10-12. They have a freezer located near the fish section with frozen rodents and fish food for sale. Not ecomomical if you have a lot of snakes, but if you only have one it is better than feeding live.
I would assume that other larger chain pet stores would also sell something similar.

thats really expensive...i wouldnt buy them from petco...try a normal petstore or at least one that sells snakes..i pay 59 cents for 1 frozen pinkie.

That's very true. Try and find a smaller local pet shop. Mine sells pinkies for .99 each frozen or live. Much more economical than the chain stores and you can usually get whatever size you need also (they will let you get larger or smaller pinkies depending on what you need).
 
Thanks for the replies so far, but nobody answer my question. My main concern was whether or not live pinkies contain parasite that could transmit to my snake. I have no concern for the well-being of the pinky, just for my snake.
 
I think the biggest problem with parasites would come from trying to feed wild caught rodents. I have had several snakes in the past that would only eat live or fresh killed. I raised the mice/rats myself and never had a problem. Does that help?
There are a lot of threads on the subject also if you do a search :).
