Im getting a new cornsnake the weekend.. Should i use a seperte tank or place 2 feed my corn than his own tank?? or just feed him in his own tank???? comfused?? :(

I feed in a different tub than where they are housed. I have just paper in the feeding tubs so there is no eating of bedding materials. Besides I have found that most of my snakes eliminate :toiletgra shortly after eating so the bedding stays cleaner.

I would recommend putting your snake in a seperate container. It seems when they eat in their container that they live in, they can become aggressive.

good luck,

Is the idea that snakes can become aggressive if you feed in the tank they live in fact or urban legend? I have a redtail and a gtp that feed in their enclosures and have never shown the tiniest bit of aggression. I know my brother in law feeds in his enclosures and his one aggressive snake, of the 8 he currently has, is just a mean sob anyway (he's a biak with a mean streak). Just curious if anyone has first hand experience with a snake turning aggressive from being tank fed.

I think its true, i never tried it so i dont know but, i think so because i hear stories of people feeding snakes in their enclosure and then when u goto pick them up they think their getting fed so they strike.

To answer the original poster. Feed seperate. There are alot of reasons. Here are a few that come to mind:

1) Possible impaction from substrate

2) Accidental cannibalism if you have more than one snake in the same cage trying to eat the same rodent

3) If you feed live you don't have a bunch of mouse crap in your snake cage. I use a small plastic cage with no substrate so its easy to wash out after use.

4) Conditioned response, I believe my snakes associate their seperate cage with being fed. They are awakened when I move them and they become alert and feed right away.

Well I feed in my tank as long as there is only one snake in it. Otherwise they start fighting for their food. I've experienced that once.

THe only thing to worry about is the substrate as hockeystop said. Then again my snake eats "airborne" like a GTP. so thats no problem.

It certainly does not make them aggressive.

feeding in tank

i feed all my snakes in a separate container. my biggest a 4 ft king i just put in a rubbermaid tote a big one with nothing in it . all my smaller snakes corns i put in walley worlds little plastic containers that have a snap on lid and a handle . i had a king once that everytime i put my hand in his tank i'd get bit never fail. i think previous owner may have fed him in the tank but i'm not sure . i'm not taking the chance with any of mine being tagged is no fun at all. gail
