Feeding question

A friend of mine had told me that is bad for snakes to eat mice from the back toward the head. I fed my little guy steve french today. He had just shed and hadnt eaten in a while so he took to the pinkie aggressively and ended up eating it from the back towards the head. I tried to kind of poke him off it when he first tried to take it cause my friend told me they can choke eating that way. He wouldnt didnt let it go though and I didnt want to disturb him so I let him eat it like that. Have you guys ever heard of problems eating this way?? Its seems like it may be a problem for bigger mice and not so much pinkies but i dont want steve french creating bad habits. Thanks :)

My little guy had his first butt-munch episode a couple weeks ago (he ate a F/T pinkie) and he's perfectly fine. Just give him the standard 3 days to digest before picking him up again and he should be fine. :)

1 of my snakes wont eat any other way he always eats from the tail forward. I have tried several times tail dangling and even poked a hole in the feeding tub and pushed the head into the hole so he had to take it head first he refuses to eat it. As soon as I lay it in the tub he will nose around it and start tail first. So far I have not had any issues with him eating that way has has eaten every 7 days for 8 months now always tail first.

It just has to deal with when you reach the shoulders of the mouse its harder for the snake to get it's mouth to expand beyond the shoulders coming from the back to the front but if they get it down okay there really shoudln't be any problems. Mine seems to naturally know the difference if she doesn't strike well on the head she'll bite the butt find something weird nad off about it then she spins the mouse around until she gets the head in her mouth. It's probably because I brain my mice and the different tastes in the brain juices and regular body make a difference to her.

There won't be any problems. Some just start with the butt. If this is the first time you've fed her, this may be the only time she does it.

Thanks for the replies. I have fed this guy maybe 6 or 7 times and this was actually the second time it happened. Guess my snake goes both ways
Definitely put my mind at peace, thanks again. And thats hilarious about you cutting a whole in the feeding box and sticking the head in doom haha
