Feeding tube dilemma

Ok so I just got back from a worthless journey looking for 1/4" hardware cloth.
Where the heck do you get it? I asked a guy at Lowes and he looked at me like I had 2 heads :shrugs:

I bought mine at Lowes. Sounds like that guy needs two brains.

Home Depot, Menards, similar should have it.

I found mine at Wal-Mart in a roll in the garden section. No idea why it was there, specifically, but that's where it was. Very cheap, too, even though I hate shopping at WM.

I have run into the same retreads. The problem lies in the fact that the "geniuses" at HD and Lowe's, don't know what "hardware cloth" is! Tell them you want screen, not window screening but wire screening like chicken wire. Works like a charm!

Thanks Pat! Found it at the Depot in the garden center. You're right, the 1/4" looks too small but the 1/2" was way too big :cheers:

Another common name as its known around here is "rabbit wire". I had to jump that hurdle as well when the guy at the hardware store looked at me odd when I called it hardware cloth.

I had my doubts about mice eating through it, and so far not a problem. Hunger is a great motivation for learning. Works on husbands too. :grin01:

And to get the water bottle tubes through, I took a screwdriver and slowly pushed it through one of the squares, stretching it out, so that would allow the tube to hang straight down, which was about 2" from the corner of the rack. That way there weren't any sharp edges and the mice couldn't get their teeth on the plastic lip of the bottle.

One of these days I'm going to get me a gravity fed bucket watering system. Refilling bottles every few days gets old. Especially when you have a lot of lactating rodents, they drink like water is going out of style.
