Female not eating!

lol

New member
please help my female corn will not feed; she laid a clutch of eggs 4 days ago but she will not feed.
Also when is it safe to put my male corn back into the same tank.
Many thanks in advance lol.

New mom won't eat...?

Well, since I'm sitting here waiting for one of my girls to finish laying her clutch, I'll take a stab at your question.
First of all, If I've done all my research correctly, it is best to offer her a meal RIGHT AFTER LAYING.
And this meal should be a SMALL one. A fuzzy or even a pinkie or two, if she'll take them.
But don't panic if she doesn't eat right away - after all, she's just put out a dozen or so eggs and she's TIRED!!!!!!
Relax a little, give her some space and a day or two on her own, then try a fresh-kill fuzzy.
As long as she was nice and hefty going into the pregnancy, she should come back around soon.
Secondly, I wouldn't put her back in for breeding again until about three weeks after she layed the clutch.
And then ONLY if she's eating well, and regaining condition.
Hope this helps.
And good luck!
:)
P.S. Please make sure she has proper heating while rebuiling her strength. This will help her to digest those first meals.

female not eating

:) many thanks for your prompt reply. It helps to know other peoples views. As to breeding her again this year, I do not want to do this, but I would like to put the male back in with her. When can this safley be done?
Again many thanks lol.

Alone or Breeding

If you put your girl back in with your boy......they will breed. It's as simple as that.
Snakes are funny that way. You put a female with a male, and before you know it (a month or so later).....EGGS!!! :)
If you DON'T want her bred again this year, then she'll have to live alone (or with another female) until about October or so.
(Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.)
This is when snakes go about the business of 'brumation', if allowed to.
But, even if they are not cooled for brumation, they generally won't breed during the November, December, January time frame.
Does that help?

female not eating

again Melinie many thanks, although some what confused! The female i bought was in atank with males and females. The handler said they will only breed after brumation which as far as I was concerned was only once a year.
I have in fact put the male back in, but the female has still not taken any food:( She still looks ok and has taken on plenty of water, but she has not eatern for at least for 2 months!
Does laying a clutch so close together when she has not eaten risk her health. as you can gather this is my first expierence of breeding corn and we have only had the female for 3 months!

Again thank you in advance lol:)

Maybe it's just me......

....but I wouldn't put her back in with the male until she's back to at least her pre-breeding weight.
As far as brumation goes - some people feel that it is absolutely ESSENTIAL to the breeding health of their snakes. Others say that it is not NECESSARY, but it gives them a break of a few months, when they are not constantly feeding their snakes.
My best friend never has cooled her snakes for brumation, and they are BIG, healthy, 6-year-old Corns that double clutch almost every year with no problems.
So (and here's where I get to your answers), NO, brumation is the 'trigger' for breeding. Yes, your snake WILL breed without brumation. And, yes, your pair will likely breed again this summer if placed together.
I can't speak for others, but, if she were MY snake, I'd let her stay in her own tank until she'd put on some weight, and had a little break from her mate's advances. If she breeds again without having eaten and re-gained proper condition, it COULD be very draining for her.
And, YES, both sexes of snakes can be kept together during brumation without breeding. But, once they are brought out of brumation, it is the natural course of events.
And, as I said, I'd guess that you would be safe to put them back together without expecting breeding, in about October.
Does that help?
I hope that all makes sence.....:p ...it's early here.
