if the food im feeding to my snake makes a buldge for 3-4 days is that food size to big?

#3
(i know this isnt that smart but..)
would it be ok to house 2 similar sized snakes (around 1-3 month year olds)
in the same tank for at most 3 weeksuntil i get anouther tank?

TY for your answers ahead of time
:wavey:

#1 Electricity. Best answer I have.

#2 As long as it digests it and doesn't regurge (and can swallow it in the first place) it should be fine.

#3 I wouldn't recommend it, but I know there are PLENTY of people that keep hatchlings together.

Best I can do...I am sure there are many more people out there with something better to say.

I would assume heat tape works by electricity creating heat from resistance in the coils of metal wire that run thru the tape. That's how most heat is created in an electrical unit. Best I can do on that one too.

yea, so many people have different opinions on keeping corns together. I am with keeping them together, if the proper precausions are taken, there should be no problems. But, if you dont take the time, to keep them seperated after eating for at least 30 minutes, and you arent handling them equally and giving them both love, and not having two hides(at least) and anything else that may make them nervous, if you have a confortable setup, liek the heat and stuff, they should be fine. If you dont feed them for 2 weeks, the temp, is off, and they are always stressed out or something, just from you punching the glass multiple times a day, then they may be pissed snakes. Just take care of both of them, should be fine.

I think you got enough explinations on heat tape...

As for food size, if the snake can keep it down and isn't regurging, I suppose it's an okay size. I was worried about the last mouse I fed my snake, as it seemed to leave a huge lump, but she was fine. The recommended size is 1-1.5 times the diameter of the snake at the thickest point, so if it doesn't seem bigger than that, your snake should be okay.

As for housing together temporarily, I guess that would be fine, but I personally would seperate them as soon as possible. There's tons of people that house them together and they do okay, from what the humans can see, but I'd rather do the responsible thing and give my animals the best environment they can have -- and when it comes to housing solitary animals, that means housing them alone. :) But temporarily should be okay. Just use proper precautions when it comes to feeding and such.

Oh, and if you don't have the second snake already, do NOT house them together immediately. The new snake might be carrying something it can give to your old one, and believe me, two vet bills/dead/sick snakes is worse than one. :) Keep the new one in quarantine for awhile. Good luck.

Duh, I forgot to mention quarantine.

I would say at LEAST 30-60 days...check the new snakes BM's, watch it for strange behaviour...better yet take it to a vet and have it checked.

Derek what is a BM? Body mass? Also ont he flexwatt make sure you use a good thermostat as yes it is resistance that makes the heat and it will continue to rise if not controlled...

I'm going to assume he meant BM= bowel movement

Body mass doesnt really maky any sense, and checking stool is the only way to tell about parasites, etc.

Sorry...BM meaning body mass never even crossed my mind...I should have specified.

Bowel Movement is what was meant...

Watching weight in hatchlings, while a good idea, is not very accurate due to their extremely small size.

You would probably SEE a difference before you really notice one on the scale.

Well, in your question, you specifically asked how it gets hot etc. The heat tape gets cut into different lengths, and you'll need a rheostat to control the temperature. Otherwise it will be too warm. I've never used the stuff, just looked it up on the internet, so I'm not sure if it sticks or not. I think so though.
