Finally! After four months!

After four months of scenting with everything, adjusting temps, keeping him on paper towels, carefresh, newspaper, finally getting him to take a few pieces of hardboiled eggwhite and eggwhite with calcium sprinkled on it, the little hognose FINALLY took a pink!

I had nearly given up on trying. But I had an extra pink yesterday and it was small, because one of the others was in blue, so I figured it didn't hurt to offer even though he'd ignored egg white the last couple times.

The little pest opened his mouth right up and grabbed it like he'd never had a single problem feeding. I did a little dance around the room when he got it down no problem. I'm now cautiously optimistic that he'll finally survive and grow.

Just wanted to share one hopeful success story!

Wonderful. Those eureka moments are precious and cause for relief and celebration.

Eggwhites...hmmm...trots off to read about hoggies.

Great! That is definitely one of the "joys" of keeping Hoggies, their little eating strikes but you never lose that sense of relief when they finally start eating again after a strike! My Atticus is currently on a mini strike.

I've gotten a lot more relaxed about the older ones going off feed! But this one worried me because I got him as a teenie tiny thing and the guy who sold him said he had eaten, but... you never really know. So I didn't know if he'd ever eat.
