finding a thermostat.

antsterr

Always mostly awesome
I'm working on getting an incubator ready for at least one of my girls here. I have an empty 5 gallon tank I was going to use with a UTH but I can't seem to find a thermostat that would work with that. They only kind I've found are the wall mounted ones for a gas furnace. Can you use that kind? Could I just make a box for it, plop it down in the moss and run wires to and from it?
I live in Edmonton Alberta, if anyone knows a store that would carry what I need please let me know. The pet shops have UTHs but no thermostats.
If I could get away with just a dimmer switch I'd use that. Any ideas?

I'd try http://www.ebay.com . Search for reptile thermostat or variations.
I don't know how particular corns are, but other snakes I've researched (pythons particularly) need constant temps in order for high hatch rates & healthy babies.
I had a suprise lay, and though I'm making do with an aquarium heater & flexwatt, I just ordered a proportional thermostat from Spyder Robotics ( http://www.spyderrobotics.com ) I can't remember the model #/name, but it's about $115US. I decided it's worth having happy babies, and I'll use it for my blood, Burmese, and ball pythons later.
