Finding beloved pets new homes, need help!

So in June I will be moving across the country--it is a month away, but I've already started working on packing and planning. I am bringing ALL my snakes, since they can come in my car. However, as much as I love my angelfish--and that is a lot--I'm worried that they would die in transit because of their large size (they would thrash in the boxes for shipping and wouldn't make it three days in a car). So I'm trying to find homes for them.

I know somepeople think "eh, they're just fish" but my four angelfish are like little puppy dogs--they come when I call them, wiggle their heads, and watch tv with me. They'll even eat from my hand. I've had them for three years since they were babies, and I'm absolutely heartbroken to part with them.

So, I'm looking for someone who will take them in and care for them (water changes, appropriate housing and no overcrowding, feeding) I'd include the tank, substrate, filter, heater, light, plants, everything--just to know that they were being well taken care of and would be able to live (not die in transit to Utah) I have three tanks and four angelfish that need new homes.

If you like beautiful planted tanks, but don't want to spend any money, and live in or around Ohio, this is your chance. CS.com has helped a dog and a cat find new homes--can it help my fish find new homes?

Have you talked to Lori (LBoz) about how you could ship them with minimal stress? As I understand, she's shipped quite a few fish. Then you wouldn't have to give them up!

I talked to vinman, who keeps fish as well and ships all the time. He said that because they are so large, and so flightly, they'd almost certainly die in flight. Especially my favorite Louie, who is really high strung.

Ah... Good luck finding them homes!

Hope you an find homes for these. I guess I misunderstood your post on the other thread, thought you were saying you needed plants cause the fish ship better WITH plants.

I can tell you I know just the place I'd take them if it was me (and in my town).. There is a local restaurant that has a great fish tank, always looks beautiful and the fish seem to be the same ones everytime I go. The reason I say that is you might have a similar spot near you and then you could see them whenever you're in town.

Sarah, there's a large fish club in your area...I can't think of the name off the top of my head, but I'll find the link and send it to you. I cannot guarantee that they'll pay you for them, but I'm sure someone in the club can re-home them.

I've moved large fish, so if you really WANT to take them, let me know and I can give you some great details. It's work though, as I'm sure Vinman has mentioned.

There's also a fish store on Henderson Rd and another in Grandview in your area. (Remember, Columbus is my hometown, I didn't google this! ;) ) I'll get back to you with the link, but let me know if you're interested in the other options.

Best of luck with your move!

Lori, thanks for looking that up--I actullly just got back from one of their meetings. They are a big club. The problem I have is that most of the people there are serious into fish keeping--they have really expensive or obscure fish, and are not interested in angels.

I really want to keep my angels, really really, but I'm worried that they have no chance making it. Tonight I heard from a guy who took fish in his checked bags all the way back from Panama, but he said he only took one inch fish or smaller. Louie is a good four inches long and six tall.

Honestly, everytime I think about giving Louie away I start to cry, I don't know if I can do it, but he is so easily spooked. I moved him across the room a year or so ago, and he was so upset and thrashed about that he lost part of his fins (they grew back).

There are a lot of members on the fish website I moderate for that are in Ohio. It's called FishGeeks. Feel free to post over there-- you might get someone who is interested. If I were closer I would totally be interested! I lost three of my four angels in the past year and am down to one.

I should go to more fish sites to post--the truth is I really want to find a way to keep them. My heart is breaking at the thought of giving them up--I've had them all for 3 years. They are my babies, I found an angelfish site, maybe they can give me tips on shipping.

you can take them

I dont see why you cant take them, you will need to double up large fish bags and have a ice chest, use stress relief in the water it turns it blue, use the water that the fish are in now, maybe do a water change a day before.Put each fish in a seperate bag. If you want you can call me and I can explain in detail how to bring them with you. They export huge angels and discus from Brasil, believe me it isnt no big deal to do it. Unless the fish are in poor health its not a problem, I used to go to tropical fish stores to maintain there fish rooms and make sure they run smoothly I know alot about them.:santa:
