What substrate are you using in your laying tub?
How moist do you find it is best to keep it?
How big a tub do you use for laying tubs or does that depend on the size of the layer?
Thanks, Skye

I'm using sphagnum peat moss. The stuff I have this year is shredded, and thus rather dense, so it has a lot less airspace than the moss I've used before.

This stuff is like vermiculite... I keep it just wet enough that I can't squeeze any water out of it. I've also used vermic before, but decided to go without this year because it leaves stains on the mother when she crawls around in it. Looks like someone drew over her eyecaps with a pencil.

I use tupperware-type containers, which are about 12 inches squared and about 4 inches high. For the bigger females I just don't fill it up as much. The rule of thumb I use is that the empty space should equal about the amount of space the mother will take up when she's inside. :)
