First hatchlings Thread (DUW)

NIce looking babies.. I can see the white on that amels face in the prehatching pic. Maybe it is mor prominant now that she is dry?? Would be cool if its the pied gene hehehe ;)
I doubt it's the pied gene, could just be a fluke in the coloring because the father, the bloodred male, has a white tail-tip as well as a few random white scales here and there, but nothing really special. (Although he is, in his own right, a special boy)

I just realized that I haven't posted more baby pictures! Yikes... it's been hectic here over the last week what with the fridge fiasco, the hatching clutches, and everything else...

I'll make up for it today by posting more pictures though... starting with...

Hatchling #6 - Snow Male weighing in at 5g:

Hatchling #8 - Normal Female (Will pop again after she sheds to be sure)

I'm expecting her to shed soon as she has cleared up and was soaking in that shot...

Hatchling #9 - Snow Female (100% certain on the gender here, candled her after I candled one of her brothers - definite difference between the two!)

Oh so blue... can't wait to see her after she sheds.

Hatchling #10 - Normal Female (Will check again after she sheds to verify)

All these blue babies... lol... They must be impatient to be in their new skin after taking so long to hatch!

Hatchling #11 - Another Normal Female (That will be popped again after she sheds, which should be fairly soon seeing as how she's blue too!)

And finally, Hatchling #14 - Normal Male (Also in the blue...)

That's all 13 of the surviving hatchlings. Number 13, was the anery female that died shortly after leaving the egg and number 15 was the deformed snow that came out yesterday. If you want to view pictures of the deformed hatchling - for those with morbid curiosity - you can view it here: Immature Hatchling Page in the health section of our web site.

I also have a bit of a treat for you guys. The first little normal has shed and she looks even prettier in her new skin. And she definitely popped as female this time around... Will post pictures of her in the next post.

Here's Hatchling #1 in her new skin as promised:

I can't wait to see the amels after they shed... which should be soon as their eyes are clearing up. =)

Enjoy the pics! Will add updates as the rest of them shed...

Thanks Deb... I'm really looking forward to them shedding too. I want to see how much color they're going to retain. Should be any day now as the second normal just shed earlier today...

Here he is in his new skin (he's the really bright one that hatched out) and he still has quite a bit of color to him.

Not as bright as the het sunkissed kids from last year, but still far brighter than the normals we hatched out this year in the other clutch.

Wouldn't you know it... the little amel (number 3) is holding out on me... How do I know this? Because number 4 has just shed, and number 3 came out a full day before number 3. That's how I know!

Anyway, here's one of two anery males, No. 4 in his new skin:

He was like greased lightning the moment I opened his deli cup. He didn't want to sit still for nothing.

Once the rest of the babies shed (only 10 more to go) we'll offer them their first meals.

Three more hatchlings shed this evening, both amels and another normal!

Here's hatchling# 3, I think she felt bad for holding out on me earlier! lol (And she is definitely female) Still nice and bright - which makes me happy!

Hatchling #5, the other amel, who also happens to be 100% female... (makes me happy), unfortunately the cool white tipped effects on her face have all but disappeared after shedding. Oh-well, at least I have the pictures of it from before she shed.

You can see the white 'haze' along her eyebrows in these pictures:

She just did not want to sit still tonight, so I will try to get some full body shots when I offer the whole clutch their first meal.

And here's the other shedder from tonight...

number #8, a normal formerly thought to be female, but proven 100% male after shedding. He's certainly a colorful little boy:

Ooo... A shiney... can I touch??? Ah, let me touch the shiney! Please?
hatchling2008-3_8_08-10-08(3).jpg

lol... That's it for now, but you can expect to see more updates tomorrow as I saw some more of the hatchlings rubbing their noses on their water dishes. =)

Well, the first group of hatchlings have eaten, and the rest will be offered their first meals tonight. One snow did not eat the offered mouse, but it may have just been too soon as I'd offered it the same night it shed. All of the hatchlings had shed be Tuesday of this week, but I didn't get pics done until yesterday and even than I didn't get all of them. The two male snows gave me nothing but hassles so I left them be for the moment.

Here are the rest of the babies though, starting with Number 9, the female snow. (Please excuse the messy paper towel, she was sitting still and I didn't want to disturb her before I took the pictures):
