I just wanted to share an observation. I had to replace one of my feeders with one of her daughters. The daughter was born on Dec. 13th. This evening, she came into heat and mated for the first time with the male (her father). She is not even a month old yet. Mice are pretty amazing little critters. I keep wondering if it hurt? and other weird anthropomorphizing things. I guess I'm just odd! Has anyone else seen breeding this young? I know some will say I should have separated her until she was 6 to 8 weeks old...but I guess I just wanted to see. Its interesting, that's for sure.
 
when my first female had her babies I left my weanlings in and chose 3 males and a female so i could give a male to my dad and the other 2 males to my local vet so they could have new breeding stock. But when I left my females daughter in my male never mated with her till she was exactly 6 weeks. I found that odd. But so far. Until I have a weanling cage. My weanlings are staying in their colonies. They seem to be doing fine now. That little girl got pregnant and gave me 8 healthy babies and is pregnant again.
 
Well she seems to be doing fine today. I guess I was just paranoid that he would hurt her. But then again, these guys were made for breeding.
 
I wouldn't worry. Their mice, it's what they do :D If it was painful or detrimental to their health evolution would have taken care of it :D Hears to babies in the near future :cheers:
