First time snake owner housing question

I have just got a new corn snake hatchling and have him in a plastic tank with a heat mat & thermostat etc I also got a 3 foot wood viv at the same time. My question is can I place his tank in the viv with his heat mat etc ( not using any other heat source etc) or keep it outside?. In the shop they were in plastic tubs in a glass cabinet. Thank you in advance for any advice given.

Not sure exactly what you mean by a plastic tank, but the viv should have a dark, sheltered hide on the cool side, and a dark, sheltered hide directly over the heat mat, with thermostat probe on the mat. My understanding is that most people with wooden vivs attach the heat mat to a porcelain tile and place it in the viv. The stat probe would then be centred on the top of the tile and a hide placed over it.

By plastic tank I believe your referring to a Faunarium...? With a vented black plastic lid. They are sold quite a lot over here in the UK in the reptile trade (it's what my little fella started off in.)

I see no real reason why you could not put it in the wooden viv. Provided you obviously keep it setup the same way it would be if it were not placed in the viv.

At the same time, (without meaning to sound rude) I don't really see why you would want to? It will make daily tasks like changing the water and also spot checking/ removing poop etc. a bit more laborious, plus the little guy more difficult to see. Why not store it somewhere until such time that its needed? This is what i'd be inclined to do... Also from my understanding, they are agoraphobic, meaning little ones don't really like being housed in a big open viv so please for whatever reason don't be tempted to move into the bigger viv until he outgrows his faunarium. Hope this is of some help.

The probe goes inside the tank. Make sure the snake can't move it, or the mat will get too hot. I used a hot glue gun to secure it onto the glass. It's entertaining to turn the thermostat back on and watch the glue cool down from 200 degrees. Lol
