I've been wanting a corn snake for a while now, and today my Biology teacher's corn snake laid eggs. Once they hatch he is giving them away to his students and I already have dibs on one. I was wondering if someone could please tell me about when they will hatch and if all of them will probably hatch. He said that he thought they would probably hatch in about 6-8 weeks? I was also wondering if snakes inherit traits like aggression or shyness like dogs do? If so these should be pretty even-tempered because they are constantly handled by the students at my school. The mother is an anerythstic and the father is normal colored, what color will they be? I know I have a lot more research to do before the snakes are born so I thought I'd get a head start.

first of all welcome to corn snakes. I am not a wiz at breeding and color morphs so I'll leave that up to you. I recomend you get the corn snake manual by Cathy Love to start with. If you can please get some pics of the babies when they hatch

the time of incubation can be 60 days but can varie which is depended by temp. from what i know snakes dont inherit features like tempers or shyness, they have there own personality. the hatchlings would come out normal het anery, or they would look like there father, and if you breed the offsprings together some will come out as anery, some normal het aney, and some normal. and i have a good care sheet on my site which is in my signiture.

Hi
The previous poster is correct about what the hatchlings would come out looking like, if there isn't any other genes hidden in the mix. Like if the father or mother are het for anything else. It has been my experience that it is rather unusual, for a corn not to be het for anything else. I am not saying that it isn't possible, but USUALLY they are het for something else. If your teacher knows where they came from and can ask the breeder you will get a better idea.

Hatching all depends on the temps. It could vary from 60-75 days or so. (give or take some days) You will start to see little slits in the eggs when they are about to hatch. Then pretty soon little heads will start popping out. It is alot of fun to watch, and they are just so cute. Your class will really enjoy it, I suspect.

Good Luck and if you can, like someone said previously get the Corn Snake Manual. It is an excellent way to get answers to alot of questions you may have. :)
