Food problem

Okay first of all i don't really know if it is a problem or not just making sure. Yesterday was my second time i fed him since i have had him and i fed him 6 days before that. So last night i cut up a pinky like i did last time and he only ate one piece. i checked his eye's, no blue tint or a hazel color in it. so he isn't about to shed. is he just not hungry? mating season? or maybe he is about to shed but he isn't showing it in his eye's yet?

Your corn should be fine to eat a whole pinkie - even new born corns will eat pinkies, as long as they arent huge pinkies. How long is your snake? and approx how fat around?

If you feed him a whole pinkie he will likely eat it with no problems.

Some snakes just don't like to eat multiple prey items. I have a six (now seven) gram baby who can eat a whole pink- I just find the smallest one possible.

Your snake is too young for mating season, and it's too early, anyway. But there's a good chance he could be going blue and you can't tell yet. Or maybe he just wants to eat one thing per meal!

my snake is about 10 to 11 inches long and is about umm pinky size thin.

Nanci,
last feeding ( 7 days ago ) i fed him a pinky that was cut into 3 parts and he at it all. How do i feed him full sized pinkies? do i cut slash marks on him? and going blue? is that like shedding?

Going blue is getting ready to shed. The snake turns dull, even blue, and hides for a week to ten days, then turns clear for 12-48 hours, then sheds.

If the pink is as wide as the widest part of the snake (don't judge by the head and neck of the snake) then I would pick out the smallest pink you can find, and cut about four slits in its back, and just feed it! Maybe I can take a picture in a day or so of my little one and the pinks he is eating.

Alrighty thank you! and to add to the shedding part, a few days before i got him (about 2 weeks ago) he has been hiding under the substrate and lately it has been hard finding him. I looked at his eye's and his eye's aren't blue yet. I will keep watching and waiting. Thank you once again.

oh and to add to the eating a pink, he is only about 1 month and 2 weeks old, is that old enough to eat a full pinky?

They typically eat day-old pinks for their first meal.

It would be helpful if you could buy a small gram scale at Target, Walmart, the grocery store, and weigh your snake. That takes all the guess work out of feeding, and then you can get an idea of how he's growing.

Ok, here is El Wray. He weighs seven grams now, but I fed him the same size pink at six grams. He's about as small a snake as you would normally encounter, in fact, he was a runt and his egg was half the size of the rest of the clutch. The pink is just a random pink out of a bag of 50- but the smallest one I could find. You can see how it looks huge compared to El Wray's head and neck, but it's about the same size as the thickest part of his body.

Nanci is right - corns will eat whole pinkies (small ones) right out of the egg. When i got my bloodred he was TINY - smallest hatchling i have ever seen and he ate a pinkie with no issues :)
