So, I live in an apartment, with a detached garage (and cornsnake collection) a fair walk away. I have trouble keeping F/T rodents warm all the way to the garage and by the time the last snake is fed the food is stone cold.

Today I had the bright idea to carry the big bag of mice downstairs in a bucket filled with REALLY hot water. I boiled some on the stove, cooled it a bit so it wasn't hot enought to melt the plastic, and walked to the snakes. The mice were still plenty hot by the time I got there, but when I opened the ziploc, the water had been hot enough that the mice stomachs exploded. It was absolutely the worst smell to ever grace my nostrils! gah! If I had the rodents to spare, I would have sealed the bag up and tossed the lot of 'em. Plus...I have several snakes that will only eat in their own tub, so I had to pick aspen bedding out of the entrails dragge through aspen beding before the snakes could ingest it.

moral of the story: don't cook your corn's dinner!

I use the same technique you tried all the time, but instead I just use the hottest tap water I can get, not boiling water.

You could try using an esky and a couple of hot/cold packs (heated up of course) or soda bottles with hot water in them and the defrosted/warmed mice in the esky with the lid on. That way it would stay warm for longer.

Side note: If you ever get a large enough snake to eat small rabbits, be extra careful you don't do this with one of them. I can guarantee that smell will top your mice...lol

Haha...i'll bet.

I have to refrain from larger snakes to keep the housemates happy. Mom has mini yorkshire terriers, and here's a few cats floating around

They neer quite forgave me when I was like 10 and a corn escaped, only to be found in the finch cage a week later..hehe

simple

In the bag they cook and can and will explode.
Just drop them in the water and they won't explode.
Use HOT tap water.
