Would love to make hides outta that stuff.....Where do you buy sculpty clay and how hard is it to form into hides?
 
If you have a big "arts and Crafts" chain store near you (Michael's, JoAnn's) there's usually an aisle dedicated to the stuff. Wiv wittle itty bitty rollers and teeny weeny cutters. (And a couple of dozen books or project sheets that will get you going on it.)

If not "Sculpty", then just look for "Polymer clay." Have fun!

I had made some quite awhile back when I built my first rack out of brown and white clay and I made some nice looking brown stone looking cave hides for my hatchlings. I even pressed the outsides of them with a real stone to give them rock texture.

I was then warned about the chemicals in the sculpy or any kind of polymer clay and the fumes that could be produced when they heat up on the warm side.

I heeded the warnings and threw them all away :shrugs: 2 hours worth of work $$$ thrown in the trash... *sigh*

I hope it works out ok, if it does I dont want to hear about it... cause then I threw mine away for no reason :rolleyes:

I used to have photos, now the only photo's that remain are from where you can see them in this photo that I took of my first rack I built before I took it apart and put it back together so that there was no gaps... I had 2 in each of the containers... it sure looked neat...

Seriously, there's more danger in the outgassing of the clear epoxy "bartop" resin that I used to cover the hides; but once that "airs out" after 4-5 days, it's copacetic. My snakes aren't complaining, nor do they look distressed.

If I hatch out clutches with 5 eyes and legs, then we'll talk. ;)

LOL!!!! I meant the "cave hides" were made out of brown and white sculpey clay :rolleyes: :grin01:
