Freshly Shed Mojave

New Avatar!
I know you guys are probably sick of seeing Deuce my "rescue" Mojave BP, but she just had her first perfect beautiful shed with me (while I was on vacation), so since I am now home I had to take some pretty new pictures of her in her glowing skin!!!:crazy02:

Although I haven't measured her weight yet, she visually looks much plumper and has a much stronger grip than she did when I got her a few months ago. She is still only eating live mice, but hopefully I can wean her off of them soon!

She looks wonderful! I'm glad she's doing well for you, you've done a great job. :) Oh and lilac is definitely her colour! :D

All the best

David

I have to be honest, until this snake I though BPs were ugly. IDK, they just were fat and short and weren't my thing. But now I see this one and I'm extremeley jealous!

Well, I am extremely glad that Deuce has changed your mind Patm1313! Balls are really mellow, fun, snakes with cool personalities (and very cute faces).

Thank you all for your kind comments! Deuce has been through a lot in her very short life, and deserves to be pampered haha!

Some questions about balls (haha...):

How do they handle? Do they just curl up around you and sit there?
How many different color variations are there?
Compared to keeping a corn, are they easy to keep?

Thanks, I don't see how Deuce couldn't have changed my mind :)!

And another quick Q:
What size mice are they fed (at youngest age and adult age)? Because they are so fat (in the good way of course) they seem like they could eat some really big things.

OMG I love BP's, I would get one if my momma would let me get another snake :( I want an albino python also, and a boa, but that is down the road lol :) Nice snake though :)

Patm1313: Balls handle differently than corns. Corns are always on the move, whereas balls will sometimes explore, and at other times be content to curl up in your lap or around your neck.

As for color variations..there are hundreds probably. Try looking up NERD's website (New England Reptile Distributors). They have a gallery page and you will see some balls that will blow you away!! They are crazy neat! I kid you not you will be sitting at the computer for a few hours.

Compared to corns, I think they are slightly harder to keep. They require slightly higher temps and humidity, but they also can go on feeding strikes that cause more stress to the owner than the BP usually. :) But they aren't extremely hard to keep besides that.

As babies, I feed mine mouse fuzzies to hoppers. I then go to large hoppers very quickly and onto adult mice very soon after that. My older BP, Meerah, isn't even a year old and she is eating jumbo mice. She will probably eat small to medium rats as an adult.

Same rule goes for BPs as for Corns, you want to feed a prey item about as big around as your snake, but with corns you can usually go a little bigger, whereas with balls you want to go with something the exact size or slightly smaller. You don't want a big lump to show after the ball has eaten.

On a side note: balls' poop isn't nearly as smelly as corns', and they only go about once a month, if that! :)

Not all BPs are that slow moving... trust me. My girl wants to go-go-go just like my corn and explore...just not quite as fast (usually lol).
