I promised my roomates I wouldn't get any more snakes for a while, and I haven't! This is about as far from a snake as you can get. I am sooooo in love, a week ago I was the biggest wuss when it came to tarantulas but Copper is a big softy :) Newest addition to the menegerie and settling in very well.

very nice! I have a versicolor, but it is still a little thing.

Funny, I am more afraid of the little yellow sac spiders I find here and there in my house than I am of the little tarantula! Oh and those orb spiders outside in the trees and shrubs....FORGET IT! :sidestep:

I'm exactly the same, the small fast ones freak me out! This one is so relaxed and slow, like a many-legged teddy bear wandering over your hands :) Cheers to 'The Nothing' for the full name, I'm off to read up as much as I can!

Beautiful! I love tarantulas. I plan to have several, but I have to wait until I get my own place because my mum is terrified of them :grin01:

yea i fell in luv with them at the ny expo. then i said i had too get one join this forum . and im planing on getting one ibn the next week or 2.

heres my first time

I can look at them until they move and then I freak out! *goes to hide in friends house* They give me the creeps but I'm working on that  . It's a very handsome spider.

I love tarantulas...in fact, I love most large spiders. But Yellow Sac Spiders...those buggers piss me right off!!! They're all over my house, and like to drop on me in the shower. And you know they possess a cytotoxic venom (which can cause necrosis) similar to that of the brown recluse. Not anywhere near as bad, but they can still cause sores that take weeks to heal!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....

i am petrified of spiders, however its only the wee ones... its how they move so damn fast!

im very interested in getting a mexican red knee i saw at the shop i buy my mice from... however its fully grown and VERY expensive... £110 to be exact

i dont think i could pay that much, then freak out when i got it home and accidently kill it!!! cause for me thats likley to happen... but i really do want one!

Ooo...very pretty Lina!

I've always liked tarantulas, but still don't like the thought of something so big walking on me. But yet, I rescue the adorable little Daring Jumping Spiders who find their way into the house, and pick them up and carry them out.

Our old house was infested with Brown Recluses, so I don't like the skinny long legged variety that move like a "shadow" across the carpet. I like the ones I can see coming and don't blend in with furniture.

One of these days I can see myself getting one, as they don't seem to require that much pertinent care (kind of like snakes). But its too bad those Cobalt Blue ones are ill tempered, they're so pretty.

So, The Nothing, if you have any ideas of a great looking tarantula that is easy going...let me know. I'm looking for any excuse to round out the "eww" collection. ;)

I was out walking the dogs once, with a flashlight, and I pointed it at a tree, only to see a gargantuan orb-type spider hanging down right at head level. *shudder* I actually don't mind spiders much at all, but to get a faceful of spider in the middle of the night would be horrific. Especially if you only thought you got spiderweb in your face, and then you realized this huge spider was on you, too... arrgh!

To stay on topic, tarantulas are adorable. :)

i cant do the spider thing i cant even look at them without going all shivery.
i was a young lad when i was told to overcome my fear of spiders, and i was told to put my hand on the table and a spider was to crawl over the back of my hand.
well it did and i did freak out and ripped my hand back and the spider went hurtling through the air and didn't make the fall :'(
i feel like poop now because he probably wouldn't of done anything to me just me being petrified of spiders even money spiders yes....

i now vow never to touch or be near a spider.

Shorty, the fact that you still feel bad about it shows that you are a good pet owner and would make a very good careful owner :) You were a kid, all kids freak out over something and make mistakes, you can't beat yourself up over it forever. I can still remember being about 5 or so and eating with my mum at a picnic bench. A tiny ant was wandering towards my food and I purposefully squished it with my finger. I will never forget my mum's dissappointed voice as she looked at me, very gravely. All she said was 'don't kill things', then went back to her meal and wouldn't look at me for 10 mins. The feeling of guilt over killing that ant haunted me for years! Ever since then I get in a rage whenever I see anyone purposefully /harm kill anything for absolutely no reason. I was banned from my local aquarium at the age of 14 after the employees found me yet again harrassing some father who thought the 'don't touch the rays' sign didn't apply to him or his kids. Parents, take charge!

Try going to a reputable pet shop (if there is such a thing) and ask to hold their most docile tarantula. Seriously, Copper seemed to take stock of my hands, stopped moving, and was like 'Eh, you'll do.'

I can totally appreciate their beauty and intricacy so long as they stay firmly secured in their little plastic tubs at the expos...I NEVER want to have one crawling on me!!! :sidestep:

tarantulas are sooo cool  i could put it outside my bedroom door and it will repel all of my siblings come to think of it thats not a bad idea :sidestep:
