frozen pinkies

Does anybody have a good method for keeping pinkies frozen without freezer burn? I have tried the ziplock freezor baggies that are supposed to prevent freezor burn and they are not working.

You sound like you're doing the right thing to store them. Try to squeeze out as much air from the bag as you can. From the sound of your other thread, he's ready for fuzzies so just get through your pinkies and then buy some fuzzies. Items with a greater surface area/volume ratio seem to fare better then smaller items so you probably won't experience it so much in the future.

Freezer burn affects the appearance and texture of the food but the snake most likely wont mind so don't loose too much sleep over it!!! I'm pretty sure you won't loose too much nutritional value.

lol :p I normally just couble bag mine. Suck the air out of the first bag (I just use my mouth...don't EVEN comment on that :)) and then put it into another freezer bag and suck the air out of the second bag. I don't get a perfect seal, so air does leak in, but having two bags helps prolong the process. As long as I don't leave them in there for a long time, then freezer burn normally isn't a problem

my pinkies are freezerburt as well. i usually just keep them in a ziplock with the air pressed out (mom doesent want the dead things near her vaccum sealer), then in tupperware. the snakes done seem to care.

This may sound kinda grosome but I use tweezers or a razer blade and cut the freezer burnt part out. Its just a preference as I wouldn't want freezer steak why would fluffy or massacre want frezer burned mice and rats? They don't mind but I like to treat my pets like people.(The bird eats at the table too)

but the mice keep getting stuck in the roller brush :grin01:

That one funny mental picture Greg!

I wouldn't worry to much about freezer burn on tha mice. Unless they been freezin for a long time, chances are it aint nuthin but a little bit of ice. ;)

My theory runs along these lines... Take the frozen pinkies...put them into the vacuum sealer bag and spritz them with a slight spray of water...so they're iced. Put them back into the freezer until they're good and solid again. When nicely iced again, run the vacuum unit. 'S ok mom...think of it as frozen chicken. *giggle* No pain, no trouble and they're easily separated!

I don't get it? Why would you "spritz" them with water?

Just curious, I have never heard of anyone doing this.

Unnecessary. As long as they're flash frozen, you dont need to do anything else other than stuff them into the bag and seal em up.

If they're not frozen, you're going to pull liquid out of the mice and it's just not a pretty picture.

Spritzing isn't necessary though, but you do have to make sure they're frozen before hand. An hour in the freezer does the job.
