After some constructive criticism from this board, I moved Cerberus up to hoppers and decided to feed him the last two fuzzies I had. I didn't look at them as I dumped them into some warm water to thaw. Turns out I had three left.

Anyway, I figured I'd see if he was interested in all three. He ate two quickly enough but when I put in the third, he just started poking it with his snout. Constantly. Just *poke* *poke* *poke* like he was trying to get it to move. After several minutes of this, I picked the mouse up by the tail and he immediately struck at it, ripped it out of my hands, put it down and then...

*poke* *poke* *poke*

He eventually ate it, but it took him a while to decide he wanted it.

Just like humans, he needed the first two to settle. I have never feed three items to any of my snakes but with Ashookie, she'll eat the first one with gusto and then strike and coil around the second, later she'll be using it as a pillow or just ignoring it. She's a one item girl.

Just don't force the remaining item. If he eats it, okay; if not, take it out. Best to throw away than to risk regurge.

No, of course. I was prepared for him to ignore the mouse, but he never turned away from it. This was over a week ago and there was no regurge.

Smokey, my 10 year old Snow, acts just as silly. This last food strike was funny. He would strike at the food and then curl, sometimes so hard that there would be blood coming out of the mouse's mouth. And then he was just uncurl and wander away. Maybe come back to poke it several times and then wander away again. We'd find him some mornings curled up around the mouse as if he was trying to keep it warm; or, nose to nose as if he wanted to talk with it. He was on a hunger strike from 01/14 until 03/26.

Snakes are funny creatures. Each one has their own personality.
