Future corn snake owner; a few Q's

I'll be a future corn snake owner, but had a few questions before I get one. First off, I've got a 20 gallon long to house it in, with an UTH, two hides, and will probably be using paper towels or aspen. So I believe I'm set with that part. On to the questions:

1) Regarding sex, are their dispositions generally about the same? One slightly more aggressive than the other?

2) Besides Kathy Love, what other reputable online places would be good to look at for purchasing a corn? I don't have many options locally. I visited my local pet stores and only one (Petco) had a corn and I would probably rather buy from a breeder.

3) Can anyone point to a good place online to buy frozen mice? In my research last night I read that stores (Petco, Petsmart) are usually more expensive. Seeing the ad up top for rodentpro.com, is that a good choice or would anyone like to offer any other options?

Thanks for the help.

I can't help you with 2 or 3, but as far as corn temperament goes males and females have the same disposition and grow to a similar size, with females getting a slightly thicker girth.

Hi! Welcome!
1) they are about the same disposition
2) Serpenco, who sponsors this site, is great (blue link on the side), and then theres South Mountain at cornsnakes.net, and ccc corns, and, well, some of the posters/breeders here have links in their signatures
3) do a search for online feeders, there are good polls and everything; I think the mouse factory, and big cheese are the favorites (I get mine from a local breeder)

Welcome to the site!!!!!!!! There is a lot of information here. Be sure to read the FAQ section in the forums. They answer a lot of questions. There is a search feature that answer many questions also.
There are a lot of great people here. Everybody is always willing to help.

I do not know if they have any breders in the south pole.

Not much of anything for that matter.

Anyway, looking for some advice as to which corn to get. I'd like something with nice, bright colors, but don't really know the differences. Was browsing and came across these three:

Flourescent orange

Hypomelanistic Okeetee

Sunkissed Corn

I've got something in mind out of the three, but would like to hear some opinions. Thanks!

Well I guess SerpenCo is out of the question. Just read that the minimum order is $100 not including shipping. :nope:

Take a look in the for sale forum. Many people on this site are reputable breeders. In most cases you can visit their websites. If you want some reassurance you can search for the person you want to buy from on the Board of Inquiry or post. Some people have even been certified as "BIO Good Guys" and will usually provide a link in their signature or on their website.

Lennycorn usually (or used to at least) provides many new users with many informative links including a list of frozen rodent providers. Look through the "new user introduction" forum until you find a welcome from him. That's actually what I did when deciding which company to go with. (Thanks Lenny! :wavey: )

Thanks for the help.

Just placed an order for a Reverse Okeetee from Don to arrive Tuesday. Can't wait!

Welcome to the site and make sure to post pictures when you get your new addition. I'm not big on the oranges myself preferring the ghosts, silver queens, charcoals, and pewters colouring, but own a handsome hypo all the same :)

I really like the looks of the Reversed Okeetees, though....

My Reverse Okeetee, Kaiser, arrived this morning right before I was about to leave for class. I got a quick picture in.

However, when I got back my snake had escaped! I couldn't believe it. I read all the horror stories and in less than 3 hours he had escaped. I took all the hides out and sifted through the aspen but couldn't find him. Then I looked under my tree limb decor and found he had crawled into the hollow spaces underneath. That sneaky snake.

By the way, can anyone tell me what this is? I found it in the shipping cup he was transported in. I thought it may be a regurgitated pinky, but I'm not sure. Thanks.

my guess...it's a regurge. i'd wait at least 8 days before feeding him again.
he might have been fed shortly before shipment and the stress of shipping caused him to regurge.

and they are sneaky buggers when they're that small, they'll find the tiniest crevice to hide in. i try to avoid decor/ornaments that have holes in them like that. sometimes it's hard to coax them out of there. whatever you do, dont pull them out, you can hurt them.

Ok, that's what I figured. Should I try to coax him out or leave him be and let him get out on his own?

Also, does it matter if I get a UV or infrared bulb? I have an UTH, but might need a lamp for the winter.
