Who keeps gartersnakes? I just got my first baby... I've wanted one for YEARS lol. I've always been tempted to just grab a WC one since they're pretty easy to find around here, but I adore albino garters so I held out gor a CB and I finally got my little dream snake :)

Anyone else have any pictures of these pretty little sunlight loving snakes?

I don't have one, but I've wanted one for years. We have some gorgeous natives, here, and they're my favorites! Unfortunately, though, we're not allowed to keep native species as pets. So far, I haven't seen any other species I like as well as our own natives, so I haven't purchased one.

This is Squirt, my little Wandering Garter. My dad found him in the office at his work. He was such a tiny baby when my dad first brought him home, but he is growing like a weed!

They are so cute. I would find it difficult to remove something from the wild. I found a white tarantula once, but let it go. I wish I'd taken a picture of that one.

I was given two wild-caught Wandering Garter juvies earlier this week. Total sweethearts, both of them, even though they've only been in captivity for a month, and the male is SUCH a glutton. Today, he chowed down on an f/t mouse leg (broke off the rosy boa's meal in transit), then gobbled up both the tilapia strips I tried to offer the little female (who wasn't interested). Ehhh... Listen, dude, if you regurge any of it, it's NOT my fault. :p (At least now we know he'll take nicely to pinkies!)

Hold on, what was I talking about? Oh yeah. These guys are my first garters, and I'm IN LOVE. I've always had a soft-spot for garters, and have honestly no idea why I waited so long to get one. It's not like they're terribly expensive... Lol. :p

Wish I had pics to share, but my camera's memory card is AWOL and the USB cord is MIA. Figures. :)

Squirt is so cute! I'm excited for my little girl to start growing as well :D

There are so many amazing garter snake species out there, and many of them now have anery, amel, and even snow morphs available :3 I say if you're interested in one go for it! They're small, easy to care for, versatile, and there are so many options. It's almost easier to find some beautiful CB babies out there than it is to go hunting for a wild one.

Ain't that the truth! I've only ever seen two wild garter snakes, EVER, in my life (not counting my two Wanderings). How so many people manage to find and catch soooo many wild garters to keep as pets is beyond me. And, actually, really sad, considering what that must do to the wild populations. I know garters produce like mad, but there has to be a tipping point somewhere...

I've even been thinking about releasing my two little ones back to the wild and just continuing the hunt for CB. They could kick-start a nice little population in my back yard, if both live to adulthood (they're a 1.1 pair as luck would have it!). The only problem there is I'm already kind of really attached. Little stinkers. :p

I look at the garter snakes every time I go to the mall...I love the albino checkered ones. I know I would be killed (or at least disowned) if I brought another animal into the house though, so I look and daydream about owning one ;)

I go herping in the early morning when it is still misty up around streams for garter snakes. Last time I went I thought it was too cold for snakes to be active, but they were out snaking it up. It was hard not to step on them as they rippled in the leaf litter. I had my sons hold still and watch them without touching. Later that day we saw a bald eagle.

Congrats on the pretty little garter!

No longer own them but here is a few pics of my Pugets.
This is an old pic of the male, who now lives with Don in Utah and I will get to see him at the WRE in just a few months, he will be on display.

This is Tkki, the female who died shortly after the last two pictures were taken. She was the sweetest snake! Got an eye infection immediately after I received her, battled it off, losing the eye in the process but then died about a year later, from complications from the infection, I think.

Sorry to hear about your snake Tavia! I love blue snakes

My baby seemed to have developed some type of eye complication during the trip over as well ): It looks like some type of hemorrhage in the eye of burst capillary??? :/ her right eye is a darker red and she has a dark spot towards the bottom. Her eye was normal before she was shipped out. I'm hoping for the best though, she seems very healthy and recently had an excellent shed and took a F/T pinky head today :D

I just saw an ad from 9-3 on Faunaclassifieds. There's a guy from Indiana that has some male blue sided garters for sale. Wonder if he still has them...
