general egg health

I have been incubating about 18 to 20 eggs for 3 weeks now and they all look perfect today was my day I open the incubator add more water and what not and I noticed that eggs had hardened alittle and were more firm then when they were laid, they wernt softer with a more leathery feel. Is this normal? I know bad eggs harden and turn yellow but these show no indications of turning yellow. Are my eggs fine? Any help would be much appreciated.

How soft should they be when they're due to hatch? i've been candling mine and i can see them moving but they don't want to come out!! (day 52)

Hmmm Boy that is hard to explain. The shell will feel kind of squishy.?. What temp are you incubating at? The tell tale sign is a fresh cut green pepper smell that they get about 48 hours before they pip. So every couple days sniff your eggs you might be able to smell when they are getting ready to pip. I wasn't able to use that this year since I had one leak so I have been smelling that for about a month.

I'm incubating around 81-85 F.. my incubator isn't perfect at regulating lol. I'm about to go check on them now so i'll have a sniff! thanks!

Not to completely rain on your parade. Those are the temps I have been incubating at and mine just pipped today on day 62.

Aw :( Well I had a sniff anyway and it certainly smells like the inside of my greenhouse lol.. I think I'll cut open a green pepper to compare! I suppose i can wait another 10 days!
