genetics test

ok, i'm completely new to anything genetic related, and new to morphs. but I have been reading a lot about it and figured i'll give myself a little test.

so i found this post and I'm pretty sure the breeder made a bunch of mistakes.

http://www.reptilechannel.com/repti...ry-2012/anery-striped-tessera-corn-snake.aspx

BREEDER COMMENTS: “I bred a Tessera male het anery, het snow and het stripe to a motley snow corn snake.”

pretty sure it should be a male normal het snow het stripe (anery is redundant and tessera would show up in the baby because its dominant) to a female snow het motley het stripe corn snake(stripe is recessive to motley but only motley will show if they are both hets. but if it was just a motley he would never get a stripe in the baby.).

then he calls the baby a Anery Striped Tessera Corn Snake. but it should be an anery stripe.

now the only thing i'm not to sure about is the whole tessera thing. only because I haven't read much about dominant genes and not sure if it has to show up or not

pls let me know if i'm on the right track here or just completely lost

After reading some more I actually think the male was tessera, but it works something like it either shows or doesn't. in this case it didn't so the baby is not a tessera.

Actually you are right in the way he listed hets is redundant but he is right that would be a striped tessera. That snake is visually showing tessera and stripe together.

ok, so how does it show teserra, I have been looking at striped and striped tessera pics and can't really tell the difference.

I found this on ians vivarium: Tessera affects the cornsnakes pattern, creating a dorsal stripe while retaining an outline, and a chequered lateral pattern. Ventral pattern is also greatly reduced.

I don't see a chequered pattern

Also was i right about the female?

Tessera is dominant so if a snake is het tessera he will look tessera(we will call him tessera) but he can still pass on the normal non tessera gene he is carrying. As for telling the difference between a stripe and a stripe tessera... I'll let the others chime in because I'm not sure yet

Stripe actually reduces the side pattern and belly pattern on the tesseras. You can also tell by the way the stripe goes down the snake. Tessera stripes have a thinner stripe and it will go down the length of the snake. Stripes even perfect ones will often break and disappear towards the end of the snake.

That's the guy's name in the link, Michael Lavender. I think he's permanently banned from here.

I don't think he really did, but while he was going down in flames here, that was one of his threats. Just search for any thread here about religion or even politics and you'll see some of his work.

It's kind of a shame- he _was_ the first to breed striped Tessera morphs. But he had to turn EVERY.....SINGLE.....THREAD he commented in into a discussion of how his religion was the only right one, with a side theme of man's dominion over all animals. It didn't sit very well with the majority of the site members.

Hint: search terms would be "religion Christian."

Oh yes he knew. He had his multiple infractions before being band and he was band many times before the permanent. He had a few years to cool off and learn how to play nice and never did.

I think I might have been MIA from this site when the tessera crash happened. But...Is this the same Lavender that fought everyone and everything about religion?
