Getting probes to stick

I know this shouldn't be an issue but its one that's causing me more headaches than it should. I can never get the probes for my thermostats or thermometers to stick on a constant basis and other than sitting something heavy right on the probe Im outta ideas for getting them to stay stuck. I've read tape is a horrible idea, and I don't want to make them permanent with silicone or something along those lines. How does everyone else deal with this issue?

You know, I have the same issue. I have heard of using that blue sticky tack that you use to hang up posters, and using hot glue. I would personally try the hot glue, because it will hold on, and it is very easy to get off smooth surfaces when need be.

I use Blu-Tak and it works well. It does go hard and need replacing occasionally, but it holds well enough to stop the Corns barging the probe about. Also, it's the only sticky stuff I've found, which doesn't stick to the snakes!

No tape! I've read several posts here that snakes always end up getting into it so I wouldn't recommend it based on that.

I used silicone adhesive. It comes off really easy and they stay. A tub is 3-4$ at WalMart. Or aquarium sealant. I had hole I needed to seal off so I used that stuff for both. And stuck my LED light controller on the side with it too.

I was able to use hot glue successfully on the bottom of my glass terrarium. I used rather a lot, but it's held just fine the last 2 months with no problems, and it was kind of need to watch the thermometer read the temperature of the glue as it cooled. There's no yanking or pulling on it, so it doesn't need to be super well stuck. If you have trouble getting adhesives to stick to glass and smooth surfaces, you might try scoring the surface to create roughness for the adhesive to bond with.

I would be wary of tape. Things sticky enough to do the job are probably risky for the snake, and snakes like to burrow and push things around and are likely enough to not be content to leave your well placed sticky alone. Fatman, is there a particular kind of tape you are alluding to as the correct tape?

*Typo: should read "it was kind of *neat* to watch the thermometer read the temperature of the glue", my bad.

Just wanted to also point out that the hot glue wouldn't be super permanent either, since it can be pulled or razor-ed off without too much effort, and doesn't leave residue like tape and tacky.

Personally I have given up trying to get them to stick since my snakes use the cord as a jungle gym. I just put something heavy on top of the probe and seems to work since i am most interested in the temperature under the hides on either side of the tank.

If I were to stick them down, i would probably use hot glue like the previous posters have suggested.

I use hot glue and it works as stated,

I'm using duct tape should i not be? I made sure that it is flat to the tub to keep my snake from getting under it and no sticky corners facing up

I'm using duct tape should i not be? YES, you should not be using duct tape. I made sure that it is flat to the tub to keep my snake from getting under it and no sticky corners facing up

The only thing duct tape is good for is to temporarily hold something down or closed.

Duct tape is good for catching escaped snakes.

I would recommend removing the duct tape and the glue it will leave behind.
