Glass or wood viv

I will be getting a new viv soon and was wondering which is the best one to buy, glass or wood. I was thinking of getting a Exo Terra glass viv,900mm*450mm*450mm Would appreiciate all views including heating. humidity etc.

Hello Remmy,

I'm getting a wood viv in a view days. It's the right choice for me, I think, because wood keeps the warmth much better. Electricity is expensive around here:smash:.

Also I think it looks quite nice and makes our flat more homelike.

I hope this helps a bit.

Greetings,
marike

For me it's always wood. Glass loses too much heat for my liking...especially in winter.

yes I have to say I prefer wood ones, we made our own and then was given a snake which was in a glass viv and must say just think the wood ones look nicer too.

I'd make it out of wood, which insulates infinitely better, and will last forever if taken good care of. The attachment shows one which I will be making in the near future. You can substitute teak for interior grade plywood, and lots of U.S. hardware chains such as Home Depot will cut the wood for you.

If you have minimal woodworking skills, family members or friends can help you make the terrarium. I will install linoleum on the floor piece BEFORE it is assembled, and will use a radiant hear panel (from Boaphile), a quality thermostat, a fluorescent light (for me, not the snake), a super nice manzanita perch, a realistic background, etc.

It will probably be cheaper than a glass terrarium, and will look so much nicer. I will have the sliding glass door frame made for me. The design is not too common, but I've used it in the past. The terrarium is escape proof, and allows very little heat to escape.

Use Repti-Shield or West System Clear Epoxy to coat the wood...

You are welcome to e-mail me, and I can give you more detailed information...

Best wishes!

Dan:)

Thanks Drdan, I dont think i will be making my viv but i think i will try a wooden viv for my first one. Electricity is expensive in England as well Marike so wood sounds good.

hey remmy as a fellow corn keeper in england welcome to the forum, both my corns have glass vivs they are not hard to keep the right temps as long as u have a good UTH and in my opinion they look nicer and it is easier to watch your snakes do there thing i would recomend buying from 888reptiles.co.uk check the site out they are great i buy all my bits for my corns on there and they are very helpful
