Going off to college.....

What's This?
I'm headed to college in the fall and as far as I know, I'll be keeping my corn and rtb here for my dad to tend to until I get an apartment (stupid dorm rules). Anyways, I asked their rules on pets and they basically have the fish-only rule. I'm pretty sure I can get away with purely aquatic amphibians though. Any suggestions on easy to care for amphibians that would do well with a pretty cheap filter and a 10g tank max?

And just because I know that there are a bit of Floridians in here (including myself), I'm headed to FSU, stupid UF denied me, FSU is a better choice for pre-med anyways. Wish me luck with that, I think I'll need it.

i would say fire bellied newts there reeal cheap and can live like that but they do need some land if im not mistaken

I'm not really planning on getting the animal (whatever it may be) anytime soon, i ahve 4-5 months to research..... if not more. But I am definitely going to ask my RA jsut how strict he/she will be in regards to reptiles/amphibians and whether adding a land section, island or not, would be pushing the rules too much.

For the record, I do not recommend that you break the rules, and you should know the consequences to your choices...

BUT, that being said, I currently live in the dorms with a similar rule. (See signature)

Much like Jenni, I would strongly recommend against breaking the rules.

With that said, I live in a house that doesn't allow pets, and I have 6 snakes, 9 mice(plus babies) and 2 rats(plus babies), and my roomate has 2 rats, as well. I interpreted "aquariums" in my lease to mean that the inhabitants weren't important, only that they were kept in aquariums. Should I get evicted because of my pets, I will get a lawyer and fight it because my lease specifically permits "aquariums", not "fish"...no acceptable animals are mentioned, only acceptable habitats...which ALL of my animals fit neatly into.

Know the rules, read the fineprint, be ready to accept the consequences of your actions, and make your decisions...
