Gotta love 'em!
Thought I'd share some of my favorite "escape proof" containers (and pictures of some snakes, too :D). I've had problems with deli lids cracking and found these containers fit the bill perfectly. They are durable, "escape proof" and pretty "user error proof" in my opinion.

The first pictures are the Ziploc threaded lid containers. I use these for little hatchlings. When feeding day arrives, I just remove the water dish and substrate (2 squares folded toilet tissue) and let them have dinner "at home." The size works great for me, because they can concentrate on eating. For those who like a bit of privacy while eating, I nest it inside an 8 oz. deli. The snake modeling this container is a bit big and has moved to a larger container, but you get the idea.

The next pictures are the containers made by Lock & Lock. After the snakes chow down and grow a bit, I like to use these containers. These have lids that clip down on all four sides. I love them!

By the way, my favorite water dishes for the containers are actually glass votive candle holders for .50 each!!

Then, it's time to graduate to the 6, 15, and 31 qt Sterlite containers. My snake racks have heat tape on the back and I try to keep my room temps up. So... although there isn't a big temp gradient when using the little containers, the hatchlings do well and it works for me.

I saw those containers with the 4 locks on them once and when I went back to buy one for a feeding container, they got rid of them and said they wernt carying them any more. So I just settled for a gladware plastic container. Thats a great set up though. Maybe if I ever breed in the future.

Thanks PssdffJay. Don't know where you found them up north, but our Walmart here carries them. Yeah... if I had a lav blood, he'd be in a Lock & Lock for sure. :grin01:

I found it at a drug store called Shoppers Drug Mart. But each one is idividually owned and carries different stuff to a degree. Maybe i'll go check walmart for them.

I thought your water bowls looked like shot glasses :grin01: those would be some happy corns if they were. :grin01:

Wonderful photos and the snakes are beautiful. What a great idea to use the candle holders....I'll be picking some up tomorrow! :)

Thanks for the nice comments Preita and Crow.

Preita... You're right! The 10th picture is an Amber. I have an adult Amber too. I love her color and the little one's color too. It's so fun to see their colors change as they grow.

Crow... I hope you find the candle holders. They've been out of stock a couple times here. The cashier always makes some comment like "boy you must like candles" or something like that when I stop in to get a bunch. :D

I just smile and say "Yep, I do." Hey... I love candles, but like snakes better!

Thanks for shareing, Joni. Where do you get the lock n locks? I regularly scan the container aisles and haven't noticed those. You have some beautiful snakes. Would you mind listing what they each are to save me the trouble of having to ask each one individually? I especially like the darker one in the first lock n lock shot.

my mercy that amber jumped out at me! whatta beauty!

I have grown tired of the lids and worrying about accidents [think of Bill every time I put one in a container, I swear!] so I am gonna upgrade to a lidless economy rack from AP and hopefully then I'll have enough of the sterilite 1752's to handle my future hatchling needs.

At least with impending hatchlings [even if it is years off] I won't be at a loss with my current setup- and they won't be able to complain about hand-me-downs!

Thanks Marsha and Schilsound.

Schilsound... I bet you'll like the lidless rack system. I know lots of people use those. Sometimes I think those would be nice, because I wouldn't have to mess with the lids. Hubby and I thought about that when we built another rack this past weekend, but ended up building it to fit sterlites with lids.

Marsha... Okay, here they are. You can probably tell, but there's a Normal in the Ziploc container pictures. For the Lock & Lock, there's a Hypo, Amel Motley, Butter, Creamsicle, Amber and then the Amel Motley again.

Oops... sorry, I didn't get this answered Marsha. I got all the containers and candle holder "water dishes" at Walmart. I know the Modesto Walmart carried them a couple months ago, because I bought some when I went to the "big city" and my Walmart was out. I find that my store is sometimes out of stock for quite a while. Good luck, I hope you can find some.

Wow Jay. You live in Calgary and you don't see them down there. I live in the NWT and they have them in bunches in Yellowknife. I'ms speaking of the Lock & Lock containers BTW.
