good tank clips/snake strength?

I just bought a Zilla 20-gallon long and am working on escape-proofing it in anticipation of getting a baby corn (in two weeks, if all goes well!). If you're not familiar with these tanks, they have a sliding lid so all but the front edge is held down securely; the front edge does lift up, however. I'm planning on getting clips soon, but I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for the brand, or if they all pretty much work. I'm also interested in knowing exactly how strong I should expect a corn snake to be, both as a baby and as an adult; are they stronger than my fingers when I test the give of the lid, or if I can't pull it up will they not be able to push it?

I just tested mine and the very small gap I can create, well if I push further, I'll break the lid. Corns are strong but that kind of cage has a good design.

I had a Boa that could get out of her cage. She was strong enough to raise the lid even with a 14 Lb. bowling ball sitting on top of it.

A Corn snake would never be able to do that, but to be on the safe side, you don't want a lid that just sits on the cage, it should fasten somehow. If you put the clips at all 4 corners, and 2 in the long middle, you'll be safe with a corn snake.

DollysMom, thanks for pointing me towards that thread! The lid lifts up about half an inch if I pull hard on it, which would definitely be enough for a baby to get out (not sure about an adult?), but I'm not sure how much a baby would actually be able to push it...still, I'll probably be getting clips just to be safe. That thread does seem to imply that these lids aren't supposed to pull up at all, and I've tried taking it off and carefully putting it back on a couple of times to make I'm doing it right and I think I am. Maybe they're just making them differently nowadays?

I don't know. Mine doesn't budge more than 1/8 inch and then there still is a lip that only leaves the barest sliver of light-- not enough for a tiny baby. I could pull harder, but I'd surely break the lid. So yeah 1/2 inch seems all wrong. You could simply affix something in the lock holes to hold the front down. Be careful that you don't break your screen with clips. The screen is finer than the screen on the lids normally used with clips.

Yeah, I've been thinking of finding something to try tying the lock holes up with but haven't yet - I'll probably do that tomorrow. Mine is one with a 'feeding door' in the lid, so maybe that affects how the lid sits with the rest of the tank.

Now I'm totally confused. I've never seen a sliding lid critter cage with a feeding door. If you can you need to return it and get the kind in the picture with a one piece lid. That will solve the problem.

Unfortunately the only place near me that sells Zilla tanks doesn't carry the regular 20 gals (otherwise I would've gotten one of them in the first place, since the feeding door seems sort of pointless for a snake). I did just try tying it off with nothing more than some ribbon and it seems to work just fine, if I lift hard there's a gap of maybe a millimeter. Ribbon won't be sustainable but a bent paperclip or twist-tie may also work, I'll have to play around with it tomorrow. The feeding door itself is secure, no lifting at all, so I'm not worried about that.

I think I know what you're talking about, I had one of those for my bearded dragon. I never worried about him getting out, but I have my rubber boa and my hognose in smaller tanks of that similar type (sliding lid, no feeding door though), and I use a twist tie in the front where that little hole thing is (I think you'll know what I mean?)...for my other vivs that have lids that are "set on top" and not the sliding variety, I've made tank straps and nothing can get out of those lol.
