Good thermostats?

I'm tyring to find a good thermostat for my snake's viv. is the ReptiTemp 500R good? or should I buy something from target/walmart? I'm really not sure how the thermostat thing works ::blush:: would I plug it into the same power strip as the UTH and it would cause the UTH to turn off if it got too hot? I appreciate any advice on this matter since I know how important proper heating is to Loco's health. Thanks!

Well I have the reptitemp500r and I like the way it works just fine, I'm sure other people will have other opinons though.

How it works is you plug the UTH into the thermostat, and then plug the thermostat into the outlet.
In cunjunction you need a good thermometer with a probe to acurately see the tempatures, otherwise regulating it will be a moot point because you'll have no idea what you're regulating it to.

If you want an inexpensive thermostat, the 500R is good. If you want to spend a bit more, you can get a Ranco or Johnson Controls online for about $75. Those are all on/off type thermostats but the Ranco and Johnson Controls are more accurate and sturdier and will hold the temp to within a couple degrees.

The best, in my opinion, for a single vivarium or rack, is a Herpstat digital proportional thermostat, which go for about $109 and up depending on the model. These are proportional and will hold the temperature almost exactly.

Depends what you mean by good? I bought one for £15 of ebay, brand new, boxed, and it has worked for the last 5 months or so for me : )

I have the ReptiTemp 500r and it has worked great. Granted there is about a 4 degree fluctuation but its not enough to concern me
