I have been absent for the most part, except for lurking, since I joined and posted my introduction.
Well, some updates.
End of November my partner, Chris, and I went to visit family. I got to take my cat, Foosa, home from my parents who had been caring for her since I moved to Oregon. She is 7 years, will be 8 in early May. I have had her since she was 10 weeks old, so it was a relief to have her back.
January 1st we went out and got a free cat off Craigslist who was in need for a home and matched our family unit. Zsofia is Chris's ESA.
As in my introduction, I had two snakes, both second hand snakes. Voltaire was in a 20 long gal tank. She was an awesome odd ball. She rarely hid in her hides, and was active, a LOT.
In December, we found this guy who had a 95+ gal long tank with TONS of hides, branches, it looked like a playground for snakes. He was looking for a very outgoing snake to place into it. We visited him and thought about it and gave him Voltaire because both Chris and I agreed that she would LOVE it.
She is doing very well and we have gotten pictures. Apparently she has only slept in the hide once, all other nights she has been out in a open and during the day she is always exploring and doing stuff.
I am glad we were able to get her and care for her until her perfect environment came along.
Well, last Wednesday Chris and I went to a local reptile store to look at the baby critters. We actually were going to get a frog, but of course I looked at the baby corns and found one that caught my eye. I held her and fell in love. Needless to say, we came home with a snake, not a frog.
She is a black corn, hatched last July. She is thinner than a pencil and about 12-15 inches long.
We have named her Rue, and her first feeding with us was today. She did so good and struck at the f/t pinky as soon as she found it. The only thing I am worried about is that she ate the pinky backwards. I assume it isn't a big deal with pinkeys but will it cause a bad habit when she gets older and eats fuzzies / hoppers?
She was a little hand shy the first couple days having come from a non-handled environment, but now she likes being held and to explore.
To make her feel more comfortable we put her in a 2.5 gal which is about the same size bin they had her in at the shop. In a week or so we will move her to a 10 gal until she gets bigger in which we will get and move her into a bigger 30-40 gal, like Gus has.
We still have Gus, we got her sexed and found out she is a girl. So right now with me, two female cats and two female snakes, Chris is vastly outnumbered.
Now it is time for pictures. >.>
Gus.
Note: Foosa is very calm around the snakes and just likes to watch with curiosity. They are never alone together, and if Foosa gets too excited she gets booted from the snake area while they are out.
Rue.
She loves her coconut hide. I expect however, she will outgrow it quickly. lol
