Got a new Creamsicle

Hey all

I got a new 4 year old female creamsicle today for £55 ($75). She is just under 5ft and is already settling really well. The problem is, is that she is over-weight and because of this a couple of her scales are cracked and she has some small pieces of loose skin, so im going to put her on a diet of 1 large mouse every 14 days. Im going to do this for the next couple of months. Does this sound ok???

Im also going to introducer her to my 30 inch male creamsicle in about a week and hopefully they will breed. Does this also sound ok???

Here is a pic of her. Im going to get some better pics of her tomorrow when she is slightly more settles in.

Thats a creamsicle? Looks like a standard amel to me.

If she's as fat as you say, I'd probably do one medium sized mouse every 14 days and get her out often to exercise. That should help to trim her down.

About the breeding thing, no clue as that would obviously negate the quarantine period.

Good luck with her diet. =)
 
I've always heard that breeding a fat snake is bad. Their muscles aren't toned enough to lay the eggs easily.

Also, as Taceas said...it would negate the quarantine period. Your new snake should be quarantined for a minimum of 3 months.

uut yeah you might want to quantine them before you breed them with your other snakes just in case......
 
Thanks for the replys guys. The only prob is that she is already in my herproom, but I did check for mites ect. and she is mite free and seems to be in good health (besides bring overwieght). Anyway, im going to get some digital scales today, I will wieght her and then mabey you guys could tell me if she is too overwieght to breed.

Just a little warning.
Sometimes it's the parasites that can pass on to others.
This is why we always quantine before we put anything together.
It could ruin your whole collection. It is the little bacterias that we can't see that we're really afriad of....mites could be removed pretty easily if you have the right stuff~~
 
Simon is right...I am always more worried about Cryptosporidium and other vicious protozoa and bacteria that a snake may be harboring.

Thanks for the pic camus. I got to admit, it does look simular to your sunglow. I guess I will find out for sure what morph she is when I breed her.

I got the scales and she is 895g and she is 4ft 9 inchs.

Is she very over weight???

´hmm, my english is not the best, so ....

sunglow is not "really" a "morph". it´s from breeding amels with less white together as far as i´m informed. so you ´ll loose this phänotyp, when you breed it with "something normal"

If it was sold as a creamsicle, then it should be considered a creamsicle. That simply means it has SOME emoryi blood in it. You could probably get by with calling it a "sunglow" creamsicle, though.
 
OK, thanks Corncrazy. So if I bred it with a pure yellow coloured creamsicle, what do you think I would get???

It's hard to tell exactly, but I'd say you'd get snakes that are somewhere in between the two. You may even get some that look like either parent, as well.
 
She is 895g and she is 4ft 9 inchs. Would you call her overweight???

It is important to retain the creamsicle designation even if she looks like an amel because it indicates that she has emory genes at some point in her background. Many red creamsicles can actually be very hard to tell from amel corns - one of the issues with people breeding them - they may be sold as if they are pure corns.

I believe the creamsicles that have no white have been designated 'harvest creamsicles' by some breeders instead of sunglow. You would not be able to distinguish a sunglow corn from a creamsicle of this color based on progeny from breeding - the emoryi influence will not show so you are best to rely on what you were told - that she has creamsicle genetics and not represent her as a sunglow corn.

Have you had her probed as a female?? Tail looks more like some of my males than the girls, but hard to tell from the photos - I know how disappointing it can be to end up with a male when you think you are getting a female.

I have not had her probed yet, but as we speak I have put my MALE creamsicle with her. He seems to be very worried and it racing around, but he did have his tail up, which indicates that he is intrested with her, so im guessing she is a she, lol.
