hi,
its my first time breeding mice. i have done a LOT of research and know pretty much everything i need to know about them. I thought i would post some pics of my mice and my setup for people to see. there are 3 mice all in seperate tubs at the moment as one is definatly pregnant and i am uncertain about the other one. here are some pics:

lol. thnks. and its no problem answerin questions. good luck with persuading the wife. i got round it with mum by building a shelter outside behind the garage and then in the winter they may appear in the garage :grin01: if i keep them over winter. i am questioning whether one of the "males" is actually male. he is only very young so i cant realy tell. if hes not it dont realy matter coz the woman sold me a pregnant mouse so ill use one of the males out of that litter. i dont think they got fed very well in the shop because they have been eating ALL day.

thanks

soz i balabed on a bit i didnt realise.

I tried everything but she is a stubborn women. <wont' comment any more at that topic> :grin01:

have you tried bribing your daughter into having a pet mouse? keep one for her ( well just say you are but cull it when you get one the same colour) and then tell your wife how much your daughter wants a mouse and how much you want her to grow up liking animals :grin01: . and then if that fails i think a shoebox full of mice should appear on the door step one day

Just keep an eye on the ridges on those tubs, as well as the hole the water bottle goes through. They will use any spot they can get a hold of with their teeth and chew their way out.

lol. i have named all my mice. i have the male (nev and 2 females (suzy and jemima.)

the photos arent realy good as they were taken on a phone but the ridges are well too big for the mice to get there teeth around and the water bottle whole is very tight. i will keep an eye on it anyway.

i think jemima is going to have to be retired before she starts as she has a funny looking eye this morning. i bathed it with water and coton wool and it looks a lot better but i am still going to keep an eye on it. she also seems realy quiet and shaky. i dont know how old any of them are as they were just all in one cage left to brred were i got them from.

the boxes look realy small on the photos aswell but they are 60L ones. the mice look like little dots in them,

 lee

Personally I found the plastic tubs just weren't well-ventilated enough, no matter how many holes I put in them, so I've cut out the middle and added fine square mesh. This has the added bonus that the mice use is for exercise by climbing around upside-down hanging from it

When I bought my first colony it was three pregnant females and a male all housed together. Four days after getting them there were four babies. I had no more babies for almost 6 weeks. I read a lot and it takes a while for a colony to establish keeping them seperate may not IMHO be doing them any good. Females if stressed will absorb pregnancy or worse eat young.
As for the plastic tubs I agree with others not a good idea ( they can chew plastic like they chew carboard, making swiss cheese out of it over night), you might as well get a ten gallon glass aquarium and put them all together. again JMHO, susan

thanks everyone for the info. i will consider doing this soon just need to get the 10 gal tank. i have realised about them being seperate and they are much happier in with eachother. i am movein them all in the one cage tonight. again thanks for the help!!

just put them all in together. they just sniffed each other and i think they remember eachother from 2 days ago. i will keep checking on them every 10 minutes. they all seem a lot happier. hopefully all goes well and we have no fighting.
thanks agen, lee
