Got my viv setup! :)

cohazard

corn snake noob!
Hi herp peeps, I finally setup my viv!

It's very plain and basic right now but I plan to add more decor later.

Also got some good news. When I got home from LACMA today I checked the high temp for the day (measured inside the viv) and with no fan, it peaked at 87, not bad all :)

Yeah I'm going to get more hides later, for now I'll just use those tubes since the snake is still a baby :)

That's what I figure, since they like small secure hides, I haven't seen any commercial hides small enough for my baby corn.

Oh I forgot to mention in this thread, I finally got one :D I posted a seperate thread with photos of the kid :)

I'm going to get more plants so that he can move around the viv and still feel secure.

Looking good! I have that same water bowl. It's a heavy beast, isn't it?

:roflmao:

yeah it is! when I was putting it in the viv I was just thinking wow I better not drop this some day and it breaks my viv :eek1:

Cool! Nice set up :)

Thank you Blue! :)

Your viv looks great especially when you put in more hides. If your snake is a baby I would use a much smaller water dish. It should be big enough for the snake to get in but not really big. For my babies I use things like the little hamster food dishes, they hold about a half of cup of water.

Thank you for the heads up susang!

That bowl came with the viv; I traded one of my prized Bichirs [a type of african fish, looks like a fat snake with fins] for the setup, but I can swap it out for something smaller until the little guy grows more.

Some of us use the plastic dog and cat food or water dishes. The ones the have like a handle grip on the sides. They serve a double purpose water and the snakes love to hide if the area under the bowlk around the water. They're also cheap and dish washer safe.

Another thing I rummmage through the sale tables at pet shops I have kind of cliff/cave thing (I'm sure it's for fish tanks)it was $1.00, hamster house... I also shop the dollar store for silk plants, dishes...

I read that before but I didn't understand it, but now I know what you mean, the handle part is the door way to a sort of 'round hide' around the base of the bow! That's a great idea, I bet the snake could cool down in there too!

I will be getting one of those today and maybe some plants from the dollar store if they have the leaves I have in mind.

I think I know what cliff thingy you're talking about, they're an old school aquarium decor but you can still find them at peco's and mom and pop stores. It snaps to gether for a tiered look.

I draw the line of cheap usable alternatives at hamster houses haha I'm going for a naturalistic look for my first viv, but all the others will be mainly utilitarian.
