So Kaa came along in leaps and bounds tonight and I feel like such a geek right this minute but I figured who would understand this better than yall who have been helping me so much this last week or so. So previous to tonight Kaa has been EXTREMELY skittish and was having no part or interest in bein handled. So I took him out of his viv and tried to hold him and he struck at me 3 times, so ready to give up I put him back in his viv. But he looked slightly hungry and it's been 5days and after who knows how long of him not eating I decided I'd feed him. But I wanted to try feeding him in a different box (last two times he's eaten has been in his viv). So I hauled him out and put him in his box and took him to the kitchen. But knowing I can't handle him for 48hrs after feeding I wanted to try one last time. So I pet his back and he kept freakin out...after about 3min of this and me talking to him (I was telling him I just wanna be friends!) he stopped freaking out and I picked him up and he was totally calm! I was amazed, I've never seen him that CALM. He just wrapped himself around my hand and then he did something wierd that Rocky never did...he started rubbing himself against my hand...I was scared at first cause it was his nose I was thinking PLEASE don't bite me...but he just kept rubbing. Why did he do this...he hasn't gone blue or anything so he's not shedding...any ideas?
Anyhoo like I said he was wrapped all the way around my hand and had his head in my palm. I was worried for him cause he was wrapped around my diamonds too so not wanting him to get hurt I tried to put him back in the box but he wouldn't go...I literally had to pry him off of my hand. Then I decided I'd reward him with his dinner or at least try since he was in a box not his viv. And guess what...he ate in the box!!! Super excited since prior to now he has refused. I let him sit for 30min and put the box in his viv and let him crawl out, now he's digesting. But here's a picture I got of him fat and happy in his box for the first time! Yes silly I know but like I said I have a sense of accomplishment like watching my kid walk for the first time...I am a wierdo.

Any clue why he was rubbing his head/nose against me repeatedly?

The only reason I have ever heard has been due to shed. However, its possible that since demanding his mouse aggressively (nipping at you) didn't work, he figured he would try melting your heart in the hopes that a mouse would be at the center???

In all seriousness, congrats! Any challenge overcome with snakes is a big deal. Its ok to be proud! Don't think of it as being a geek or dork, think of it as being a caring mommy.

Don't feel silly! I can't explain to you how excited I was when my Yavin decided to stop attempting to launch himself out of my hands every time I picked him up... And when Rishi actually started eating (after 2 months... she's a PetCo baby.... :angry01:)... I could go on :) That's how we know we care about our animals ;)

Well shedding was my initial thought, but I haven't seen him turn blue but you can see in picture that I'd expect it soon, he looks pretty dull in places...so I think that I was probably right to think he was preparing to eat me lol but it was a wierd place...the palm of my hand so not optimal for biting...good thing I put him back and gave him a mouse!
Yes Rishi petco suck...he'd been there for 3wks and hadn't eaten and I got him in Apr and he only ate the first time Memorial wknd.

WOW! I had the exact same experience, well almost. Yesterday was feeding day but checkers wasnt eating so as i tried to zombie dance the mouse he striked at me, I was really taken aback and he didnt look like he was in blue, so I put him back in his viv and observed him as well as tried to make him eat, he rubbed against the mouse and was just acting weird almost like he was blind! The next day i looked at him and he was in fact in blue, although he never acted like this before, and im assuming yours hasnt either with what im saying. I cant think of anything else other then hes going in blue, also I was told when u approach them in blue because they are practically blind when in blue they strike because they just see a shadow coming towards them, which i can imagine is pretty scary! Although the next day I showed him i was there put picked him up from behind, he didnt like it but settled down after a few min, although i didnt want to stress him so i put him back! Sounds very similar situations although unless hes in blue by now im unsure as i see this was posted 3 days ago! Also its possible his eyes cleared up before you noticed he was in blue, so if he doesnt shed in the next week or so, I have no idea what it could be :( But im sure hes fine! :D Hope everything works out and goes well :)

It's fun to watch people who are newer to the hobby enjoy their pets and remember my first snake's first shed, etc. :)

Well he hasn't been blue yet. But I know it's coming as his colors are pretty dull. Today is day 3 after eating and he's still hiding/digesting...which is longer than he's done before. So I'm pretty positive that sometime this week he's gonna go blue prolly right after he digests.
