My name is Theresa and I have 11 yo twin boys. We have a BC mix, a parakeet, two canaries, a (stupid) dwarf hamster, a crowntail betta, an african dwarf frog and a leopard gecko. I've always kinda wanted a snake, maybe because my ex didn't want one! Now I can have anything I want, but I'm still trying to get over the whole "thaw in hot water, pat dry" part of feeding!

I'd love to have a Rough Grass Snake, as they eat crickets and such but they are native to Indiana, and so illegal to own. I've never been much of a rule breaker, so we started researching corns. I love the hatchling size, but not many snakes stay that small! We were supposed to go look at a red hypo from a CL ad yesterday but the guy never sent me an address. Well, the Midwest Reptile show is in two weekends at the fairgrounds. Anyone coming to Indianapolis for it?

Welcome to the group. I am new too. I hope you enjoy. What you do with the feeding is you but the mouse in a ziplock then you but it in hot or warm water. Rachel

my snake wont take a FT without it having a "bath" first, the whole thaw pat dry thing, I don't know why. But... I was told the mouse "stinks" if it isnt rinced off. she will take FK fine. but if it hasent been washed, forget it.

oh and Hi from alaska! sorry about the belated Hi Theresa. welcome to the site, im new too.

"thaw in hot water, pat dry" part of feeding!

You'll get used to it. I put my mice in a plastic sandwich baggie to thaw them out so they don't get water-logged if I forget them for a while and so I don't have to dry them off. I think the smell also helps my snakes to eat quicker. JMO

Welcome! You'll be glad you chose cornsnakes, instead. From what I've heard, those rough green grass snakes are difficult to keep! Besides, corns come in so MANY different beautiful colors :).
