Hello, new member here!

Finally have my first snake after wanting one for years. I have lurked on the forums in the past, and my brother has been on these forums for a long time with his corn snake as well.

I haven't named her yet, I'm thinking Dax (Star Trek inspired)

Hi there and Welcome to the forum :D Congratulations on your first corn, beware they are addicting! Pretty little one you have there. Thanx for the pics right off the bat. Let us know if you have any questions.

thanks! Couple Q's

- Anyone have experience judging what a snake will look like as an adult. My snake is 4 mos., it was mentioned Miami phase is possible?

- Handling is bad? I have seen a lot of folks mention a new snake needs time alone, which is fine. I have been keeping her set up in a room with a closed door and plan on feeding her a hopper in about 4 days (Ive had her for 2). Ive had her out of the vivarium a couple times, but she has never seemed skiddish or stressed, just calmly explores and I've placed her back home in about 5 minutes. And there is plenty of activity in the aspen, lots of Burroughs and places she has obviously moved about.

I intend to give her a dedicated 'feed box' as well.

Your snake is a very attractive little classic. Miamis have stark silver backgrounds, while your little one is already tan/orange. Classics vary an incredible amount so you won't really have much idea how Dax'll look until s/he's grown. Dax will probably be on the lighter side of the normal spectrum, however.

New snakes need some settling in time. This means time without being handled, usually for a few days or even a week. I tend to leave mine alone for a week. Snakes do not show stress the way a dog or cat would. They're very much a prey species and signs of stress attract attention of predators.

Do NOT feed your snake a hopper! S/he looks nowhere near the correct size for that! Get a gram scale, look up The Munson Plan, and feed accordingly. Too large of a meal can result in a regurgitation which could kill your snake.
