Hi all.

I'm new around here, and have one corn snake, who I've had for about a year and a half. I got him (he's unsexed - but in my mind he's a male. ) in January of 02, from a local snake shop. I was told he was still young then, so I'm guessing Ryce is roughly 2 years old (or a bit younger) he was around 19/21 inches when I got him. He is now at just about 36 inches.

At 19 inches, what would one guess his age was?

When is a corn snake considered at their adult size? When will he stop growing? Does his growth seem right for his age/time?

I imagine he still needs to grow a bit, or at least fill out. He does not seem very "thick" I know they are not large snakes and I have not seen many adults, but he just doesn't seem like he's full grown?

If I got him in January '02 - the proper term would be that he is an '01 hatch, correct?

I think...

that's a pretty good estimation of his age.

As for growing, he is not as big as he will get. Cornsnakes can up up to 6 feet or so, but average is around 4 feet. As they get older, their growth rate does slow down. You may notice that he starts to fill out now, and not grow longer as fast.

Congratulations on having such a pretty amel corn! And good luck in talking your mom into letting you get another one!

Oh yeah - He would be considered to be an '01 amelanistic corn snake.

Welcome to the forums!:D

Almost impossible to tell a corn's age by his size as it's all down to feeding. Two years does seem about right though. Corns usually grow to four or five feet but some do reach the six feet mark but I think this is mostly in cases where the snakes have been vigorously fed. 'Adult' size is usually thought to be when the snake reaches a good breeding length. Your snake, at thirty-six inches, has just reached the recommended minimum breeding size so you can call it an adult if you wish. It will be a while yet before your snake stops growing but it will start to slow down quite a bit soon.
