Habitat set up ideas

well, you will need a cool and warm side. i have my water bowl in the middle, make sure it is big enough to fit the whole snake in. then i have a hide on both sides, cool and hot. i also have fake leaves in the middle by the water. some substrate, and never use pine. aspen is highly recommended.

ive read that corns like to climb so im building a viv that is tall and i will have climbing available for him.

im not sure why it isnt the best.. i think because its kinda hard to clean. so bacteria stays in it. and it might be rough for the snakes skin.

i have seen some posts with quite a few people advising to stay away from repti bark.

i started out with aspen, liked it but i liked the color of coconut bark better. to me it gave me a more natural feel i guess. so that is currently what i am using. should be able to get it at a local pet shop. both the aspen and coconut bark. i believe the aspen is a really light color small chips, if i remember right.

i like it.. its kinda easier to see the poo too. as for the odor.. i really havent smelt anything ever. um.. then again my snakes are about 2 ft and then i have two hatchlings so the poo coming out isnt in that great of quantity

Well, I am using a Rubbermaid container. One hot side one cold, use a UTH to make the Hot side. I used two of the small Chewbs (Those toilet paper roll things they sell for Small Animals) for my hides, one on each side. I half bury them, and my snake loves them. I have a water bowl on the cool side, big enough for him to climb in if he wants. In the center I have a bark vine all wrapped up with a leaf vine intertwined with it. Kaa loves to climb under and around that. I have a lot of Aspen in there, that is what I use for my substrate, and Kaa loves to burrow, especially where the UTH is. He seems happy, and I find him on both sides on a regular basis. Now that I dumped more aspen in, he's happily burrowing away and I'll probably never him again, LOL.

so true.. i put more coconut in this time and i never really see him except for when i wake up in the mornings.

I'm kind of sad... I liked seeing his little snakeyness when I peeked in. It's like there is nothing in there now and it takes FOREVER to dig him out.

haha yeah for sure. my two new ones never come out ive only had them 4 days now.. going to feed them tomorrow though so ill get to see how they are.. cant wait.

I fed Kaa last night, and I'm so glad he did well. If he regurged, I'd smell it, right? I don't want to dig through everything and look for it and disturb him. Anyway, I only got Kaa last Sunday, so I'v had him for 4 days too. Maybe when he's been here longer he will like coming out more.
