hamster tubes for hide?

Sure. Why not?

Although if they're the type I'm thinking of, use each half as one hide. That way, you won't have to worry about not being able to get the snake out, and you get more hides out of one tube.

Another consideration - are these opaque or transparent? A snake might not feel as secure in a transparent hide.

Personally, I just stick to toilet paper tubes, butter tubs, yogurt tubs, popcorn boxes, and other misc cardboard. I really love the butter tubs and yogurt tubs, because you can wash and reuse them if you don't have anything to replace it.

If you're looking for cool colors, some people enjoy making lego hides for their snakes.

Clear hides can be ok for some snakes. I remember a picture someone posted a while back of a snake hiding under a piece of glass because it *felt* hidden. haha as for getting your snake out of it I assume it would be no harder then getting it out of a paper towel tube. I have a guy that likes to hide in his occasionally and I have found tipping it up on end then prodding him gently with a finger will get him to crawl out.

My only concern is that it'll be harder to clean. You'll have to soak it for awhile each time it gets deficated in since it's a tube and you probally won't be able to get your hand in their to scrub.
