i saw a video on u tuber once, with a paralyzed guy in a wheel chair that has some rattlers, he pulls them out, pets them on their heads and then kisses them and puts them away, almost like they were baby dolls, and he doesnt hide his face

You would have too prove to me that the snakes mouth was not sewn shut or that it's venom sacks were not removed before I would believe that snakes was unaltered in anyway.

Love the Fatman

Snake doesn't look healthy to me....

I'm not gonna say I've never done it (see attached) and I would never do it again. But recommend against it. Especially the care free style in those pics. Only if you've been around snakes for along time, venomous snakes even longer, and a particular snake longer would I do it.
I had a Red Diamond you could hold curled up in your hand while you cleaned her cage. A copperhead like a corn. And a few Eastern Diamondbacks who were as gentle and tame as corns. The majority of hots in my collection I never did hold.
I'll say if you don't feel comfortable keeping a hot, don't. If you keep them but aren't comfortable handling them, don't. If you do however, be ready to accept any and all consequences that come along with it. Including people giving you the business.
One more thing, people do give me the business for free handling. But let Steve Irwin do the same thing or carry an infant around a croc pen......
This E. Diamondback was born in my house and I held her often. She lived 8 years for me.....

Its all about the individual snake, in the Appalachian Mts there are snake worshipers who free hand timbers during services, always the same ones, they can be conditioned like any other snakes.

yes but knowing what you know on venomous animals, would you take the chance?

And to be honest, this is one of the reasons I do not feel the need to go into hots. I would get to complacent and then one day being forced to call 911 cause I was a dumb ass and my snake took a bite on me.

ditto. hots are one group I'll admire from afar/in the wild. I just don't trust the snake, or more importantly, myself.

dont want to ruffle and feathers here but the first pic looks in a way that it has been photoshopped. i aint saying that it has but looks it. as far as the snake handling churches go we have a couple in my area and there are still bites that happen. any snake can have a bad day and take it out on who ever picks it up. but why take the chances with them? i have owned hots but to take the chance on a bad bite like that i really cant see why one would do it. take a puff adder for example thier venom causes sever necrosis and most times there has to be an amputation done. i dont judge anyone for owning hots i like them myself. so please dont take it that way

Haha, only if I had hand-raised it from a baby and conditioned it would I try without my gloves. Of course I also have Venom One on speed dial just in case :crazy01:

Perfect....

both good points.

Hots are as much individuals as any other animal. The vast majority of corns I've owned ( 4 digits worth) were as tame as could be and never bit. I could count on my fingers and toes how many corns had tudes. Like I said, only a handful of hots have I free handed out of hundreds. Because they had the personality.

The other thing to remember is venom is a food gathering system for hots. Venom is a commodity for them. Not necessarily for defense, just works out that it helps.

Me too. It would not be the snake's fault, it would be my fault. Stupid, careless, dumb, whatever, but I don't trust myself and until & unless I do, no hots for me.

i don't trust myself because i love handling snakes.
not trying to ruffle any feathers but i find handling hots kind of dumb again not trying to make a fight going it's just my opinion

It's not a dumb opinion & I don't think you're trying to ruffle feathers. Free handling hots IS controversial, and IMHO best left to people with high levels of expertise and courage. It's not for the rest of us.

DUMB!

are you calling me dumb? Just kidding. I am used to it and prepared to take any business comes my way concerning this topic.

I knew a kid who reemed me good for handling hots. Then he would go out on 417 and race his street car. Today he is in a wheelchair.

Dagnabit!

you must spread around more reputation blah, blah, blah, blah.... I owe ya one. Well said.

Its a risky prop anyway you take it.. Each to their own.. I don;t consider this to be nuts or what not, I just certainly have a lot more respct for the animal than that.. At some point, I will keep a Copper Head, but respect it..

Although I get more of an itch on the true reasons behind the OP's post than an old rattle snake ..

When people learn I have snakes I'm always asked (as I'm sure many of us are), "Are they poisonous?" Aside from using the wrong word for venomous, I tell them that only idiots and experts keep hots. I am neither one. LOL

I am certainly not an expert never will be eithier, always much to learn.. Although you ask the right/wrong person here they are convinced I am an idiot.. *LOL*
